Tata has done an impressive job by generously loading the base variant with all essential features, especially with safety. The base Smart variant is only offered with the 30 kWh battery pack and can be had with or without a BaaS subscription. The Punch facelift sports features like an automatic climate control, tyre pressure monitoring system, semi-digital instrument cluster, 6 airbags, and two driving modes right from the base variant. The only place where it feels a bit lacking is that the rear windows are not powered, which takes away some of the premium feel.

30 kWh Battery Pack - Rs. 10.29 lakh (ex-showroom)
40 kWh Battery Pack - Rs. 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom)

The Smart+ is the only variant in the Punch EV line-up which can be had with both the 30 kWh and 40 kWh battery packs, with a price difference of Rs. 60,000. This variant sits above the base trim and offers a decent amount of features for its value. You start to get a touchscreen infotainment system,, reverse camera, and all-4 powered windows from this variant. For buyers who don’t wish to extend their budgets, the Smart+ is a good variant to settle on.
Available with:
40 kWh Battery Pack - Rs. 11.59 lakh (ex-showroom)
Feature Highlights: (in addition to Smart+)
Push button start
Keyless entry
Cruise control
Follow-me-home headlamps
Hill descent control
Electrically adjustable ORVMs

The Adventure variant is the absolute mid-variant in the Punch EV line-up, and it offers a decent amount of features, covering all necessary bits. It is available with the 40 kWh battery pack only and costs Rs 70,000more than the Smart+ 40 variant. For this additional price, you get some features that add convenience to your experience, and not to forget the 16-inch hyper style wheels that improve its looks. Users with a lot of highway usage can also consider this variant given the larger battery pack and cruise control.

Available with:
40 kWh Battery Pack - Rs. 12.29 lakh (ex-showroom)
Feature Highlights: (in addition to Adventure)
10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto / Apple CarPlay

Automatic headlights
Rain-sensing wipers
16-inch alloy wheels
Connected taillights

Cooled glove box
Rear wiper with defogger

The Empowered variant sits just one variant below the top-end and gets a lot of features on board. Except for a few more value-added features, this variant packs in all the necessary tech. This version has a lot of additional equipment on offer, like a larger touchscreen, additional cameras, and styling upgrades on the exterior, which makes it worth the upgrade and one of the most value-for-money variants on offer. If you’re someone who enjoys large display screens and automated controls, this should surely impress you.
Available with:
40 kWh Battery Pack - Rs. 12.59 lakh (ex-showroom)
Feature Highlights: (in addition to Empowered)
Voice-assisted electric sunroof
Front ventilated seats
Roof rails
Wireless phone charger
Leatherette upholstery
Rear armrest
Auto-dimming IRVM
LED headlights and foglights with cornering function

The Empowered+S is the top-of-the-line variant in the Punch EV line-up and gets all the features that you would require, leaving very little scope for complaints. Priced at a premium of just Rs 30,000 more than the Empowered variant, it gets you a lot of equipment including voice-enabled electric sunroof and front ventilated seats, which we feel are worth the premium.
The Tata Punch EV has only one direct rival, which comes in the form of the Citroen eC3. But considering its price bracket, it still competes with other electric cars like the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, MG Windsor EV, and its own sibling, the Tata Nexon EV.

Tata has done a smart job in planning the variants; you get a lot of equipment right from the base trim, which ensures that every type of buyer gets a taste of modern features. The diverse list of variants and battery pack options makes the Punch EV appeal to a larger audience, which means there is a Punch EV for all types of buyers. If you simply want an electric car for your daily urban commute, the base two variants are fairly well equipped, whereas if you’re a buyer who does not want to leave any box unticked, the top-end variant for sure is a good pick as well. However, we feel that the Adventure and Empowered variants are the most value-for-money picks.
