New Engine Plant Might Make Big Honda Bikes More Affordable

Local production of the CB300R’s engine commences
Merely a few days after globally debuting the BS6/Euro 5-compliant CB300R, Honda Two-wheelers India has now commenced global manufacturing of its ‘mid-size fun‘ engines (250cc and above) in its Ahmedabad plant.
According to Honda, this plant will be responsible for supplying engines to countries like Thailand, the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and the Gulf nations among others. For the first year, Honda aims to manufacture 50,000 engines, followed by an upscale of the capacity later on.
Not to mention, Honda plans to keep its quality levels as high as ever with its machining process, engine assembly processes, and manufacturing technologies to cater to the global audience.
All this aside, the good news for you and me is that local manufacturing of engines means a decrease in retail prices. Especially if the engines made at this facility will be for models like the CB500X which is a CKD unit with the engine being imported from overseas. The CB500X currently retails at an obnoxious price tag of Rs 6.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Additionally, the manufacturing of Honda’s 500cc engine here will also pave the way for the much-awaited CBR500R and the CB500F.
Meanwhile, we already know Honda will manufacture the new CB300R in India itself, so expect a strong pricing here as well.
