The idea of an adventure scooter is pretty cool. Taking something as utilitarian as a scooter and giving it a wild streak sounds exciting to the enthusiasts in us. And this is why Honda’s ADV line of scooters are so special. Joining the ranks of the PCX160 and Vario 160 in Indonesia is Honda’s new ADV160 maxi-scooter. As the successor to the ADV150, the new updates make it better and more desirable than before.
First and foremost, as the name suggests, the ADV160 gets a bigger engine. The 156.9cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with eSP plus technology is borrowed from the Honda PCX160. Dishing out 15.8PS and 15Nm, its specs are better than the ADV150’s 14.5PS and 13.8Nm.
Honda has kept the design more or less consistent to the ADV style sheet, giving it that brawny and aggressive look like the ADV350. That said, there are few subtle changes that help make the ADV 160 stand out better. The windscreen is now adjustable, the seat height lowered by 15mm to 780mm from the ADV150’s 795mm, making it more approachable and also gets USB charging at the front.
In addition, the ADV160 also gets Honda’s smart key system, traction control system, a slightly bigger 8.1-litre fuel tank, a revised instrument console, larger 30-litre underseat storage area and new twin rear shock absorbers from Showa.
As for its price, Honda is charging IDR 36,000,000 for the ADV 160, that’s roughly Rs 1,89,880 (before taxes). And while that’s not a ridiculous sum of money for something that looks and promises a lot of fun, we might not see the ADV160 come to India under the Honda BigWing tentpole.
However, if a fast and exciting maxi-scooter is what you’re looking for, we have the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Keeway Vieste 300.
