For starters, Brixton’s retro bikes look absolutely GORGEOUS!

Brixton Bikes Coming To India

Brixton motorcycles is all set to come to India. And while the brand really jumped into the limelight with the gorgeous Storr 500 ADV concept, I’m sure a lot of you would’ve gone ‘But who exactly is Brixton’? So before the brand makes its way to India soon, let’s quickly run through some of the most frequently asked questions about Brixton:

1) Who is Brixton?

Brixton Cromwell 1200

Brixton Motorcycles is essentially an Austrian bikemaker that’s owned by the KSR group, which in turn is one of the leading importers of two-wheelers in Europe. For India, Brixton has partnered up with KVMPL (KAW Veloce Motors Pvt. Ltd.) and the latter will help Brixton with the production and distribution of the motorcycles in the country.

Brixton has said that it’ll begin India operations by launching four models here that’ll be made at Brixton’s design hub in Austria and will roll off the assembly line from a facility in Kolhapur, Maharashtra (owned by KAW Veloce). But It's still not clear whether the bikes will be entirely made in India or if they'll arrive as Complete Knock Down (CKD) kits to be put together locally. That said, it would make sound business sense if the brand starts off with assembling bikes here, before moving on to making them in the country.  It seems that abroad, certain Brixton bikes are being made by China's Chongqing Industries.

Now while we can’t personally talk about Brixton bikes without actually riding them, the online reviews of some of the Brixton bikes have been fairly positive. The brand makes some awfully handsome retro bikes and a lot of the online reviews of its 125cc and 250cc bikes (more about them later) have been fairly good with no major issues even over long periods of time. So there don’t seem to be any immediate, major red flags that one should watch out for. How they fare in Indian conditions is something we’ll have to see once they’re here.

3) What Brixton bikes are launching in India?

Brixton Crossfire 500 XC

As of now, Brixton has a total of 14 bikes with four different capacities: 125cc (7 bikes), 250cc (2 bikes), 500cc (3 bikes) and 1200cc (2 bikes). Of these, the brand has revealed its plan to kick off with four models in India and while the specific ones haven't been confirmed yet, we think it’ll be the 250s and 500s that’ll first come to India. The 125cc bikes coming in as CKD units will still be quite expensive so it does make more sense to bring in the bigger bikes. So here’s a list of 250cc and 500cc bikes that Brixton has:

  1. Cromwell 250:

Brixton Cromwell 250

  • Slightly funky-looking retro bike with an overall vibe that’s visually similar to the TVS Ronin

  • 249cc air-cooled engine making 17.13PS and 16.5Nm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox

  • Telescopic fork & dual shock absorbers

  • 276mm front & 220mm rear disc brakes with dual channel ABS

  • 100/90 - 18 (F) and 120/80 - 17 (R) tyre sizes

  1. Felsberg 250:

Brixton Felsberg 250

  • Properly old-school, minimalistic retro roadster

  • Similar to the Cromwell 250 in terms of the engine and underpinnings

  1. Crossfire 500 and 500 X:

Brixton Crossfire 500 and Crossfire 500 X

  • Awfully good looking neo-retro roadsters

  • 486cc liquid-cooled twin cylinder engine making 47.6PS and 43Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox

  • Inverted fork and a monoshock

  • 320mm front & 240mm rear disc brakes with dual channel ABS

  • 120/70 - ZR17 (F) and for the rear, you can choose between 160/60 - ZR17 (tube tyres) and 160/60 - R17 (tubeless tyres)

  • The only difference between the two is that the standard 500 has tyre hugger-mounted license plate, while the 500 X’s number plate is conventionally mounted

  1. Crossfire 500 XC:

Crossfire 500 XC

  • Crossfire 500 turned into a beautiful scrambler with a raised front fender, knobby tyres and even a race plate on the side

  • Inverted fork is fully adjustable while the monoshock has preload and rebound adjustability

  • Bigger 19-inch front wheel to make it an authentic scrambler - 110/80 - 19 (F) and 150/60 - 17 (R)

  • Similar to the Crossfire 500 in terms of the engine

Since Brixton will be bringing only four bikes to begin with, the brand might skip out on the Crossfire 500 X for now because it’s not really a different bike from the standard 500

4) Brixton bikes: Expected price in India

Brixton Cromwell 1200

Brixton will likely launch the four bikes during the festive season of 2024 (October or November). And as for the prices, here’s what we think they’ll be:

Bike

Expected Price (Ex-showroom)

Felsberg 250

Rs 1.70 lakh

Cromwell 250

Rs 2.40 lakh

Crossfire 500

Rs 4 lakh

Crossfire 500 XC

Rs 4.5 lakh

5) Brixton’s future plans for India

Brixton Felsberg 125 XC

Apart from what they’re bringing to India, Brixton and KAW Veloce are looking to establish a research and development center in India. This move aims to make India a key export hub for Brixton, targeting markets in Southeast Asia and Africa. In addition to manufacturing, Brixton Motorcycles is gearing up to establish a dealer network across major Indian cities. Their goal is to launch 15 dealerships by the end of 2024 and further expand to 50 by the subsequent year.

In sum, we’re quite happy to see another manufacturer enter India and the fact that Brixton’s bikes look so good is the cherry on top of the cake. What remains to be seen is how well the brand can price its bikes and if it can back the same with good after sales services as well. Fingers crossed!
