Who said you need motorcycles to have fun? 125cc scooters have proven time and again that they can be as fun as a motorcycle when it comes to city riding. The Hero Xoom 125 aims to be the most fun scooter in its segment, and with its aggressive design, it certainly looks the part. But does its performance live up to its sporty appearance? That’s exactly what we’ve ridden to find out.

The Xoom 125 sports a striking design that sets it apart from its smaller sibling, the Xoom 110. Hero has ensured that the Xoom 125 has a unique identity with an all-new design. At the front, the LED headlights add to its aggressive appeal, while the sequential indicators make it the first scooter in its segment to offer this feature, following in the footsteps of the Xoom 110, which introduced cornering lights to the category.
There are multiple colour options available, catering to different rider preferences. The front section feels quite compact for a 125cc scooter, and the instrument console also seems somewhat outdated and doesn’t quite match the sporty aesthetic of the scooter. At the rear, it features an external fuel-filling lid for added convenience. On the plus side, Hero has designed the scooter with serviceability in mind. The exhaust has been moved outward, making internal maintenance easier without the need to remove panels, ultimately reducing servicing time.

The Xoom 125 is a fairly compact scooter, and at 5’7”, I found the seating position comfortable, with no issues on the floorboard while riding. However, carrying a bag on the floorboard does make it feel a bit cramped.
For storage, the scooter offers two generously sized pockets on the front, which can easily hold essentials like gloves or other small items. The left pocket also features a USB charging port, making it convenient for riders on the go. Underseat storage is decent, accommodating a full-face helmet from a budget brand. However, if you own a premium or larger helmet, it may not fit. Additionally, there isn’t enough space for a laptop bag, which could be a drawback for daily commuters who prefer storing their bags rather than carrying them on their backs.

As soon as I got to riding, the Xoom 125 delivered a smooth and linear acceleration. The engine had a punchy feel, which makes city rides enjoyable. On an open stretch, I was able to hit 90 km/h effortlessly, meaning that the scooter can handle short highway stints as well.
125cc scooters are known for their zippy performance in urban environments, and the Xoom 125 is no exception. Overtaking in city traffic is a breeze—just a flick of the throttle, and you'll easily pass what you need to.

The Xoom 125 handles quite well, but when compared to some of its competitors, it isn’t the most flickable scooter in its class. That being said, it comes with grippy tyres that offer excellent traction, giving riders plenty of confidence while leaning into corners. The scooter is equipped with large 14-inch wheels, designed to handle bad roads more effectively. While it does a decent job of absorbing potholes, the rear suspension feels slightly stiff. However, this is expected from a sporty scooter, and in return, it offers excellent stability, especially while cornering at higher speeds.
Braking performance is another strong point. The front disc brake offers good feedback, allowing you to bring the scooter to a controlled stop with ease. The top-spec variant features a front disc brake with CBS, which works effectively to provide a safe and stable braking experience. However, one downside is that the scooter does not allow the rear wheel to lock up and slide—something that would have added to the fun factor of this sporty 125cc.

The top-spec ZX variant of the Xoom 125 comes with a range of premium features. While the base variant gets only two color options, the ZX version offers four different color schemes. Additional features on the ZX include a front disc brake, machined alloy wheels, sequential indicators, a USB charging port, turn-by-turn navigation, and an under-seat light. For an additional Rs 6,000, these features add significant value to the package.

The Xoom 125 delivers strong city performance with a peppy and refined engine, and it is capable of short highway rides as well. The braking setup is impressive, though the inability to slide the rear wheel slightly dampens the fun factor. It gets a decent amount of features, although a larger under-seat storage compartment and a bigger floorboard would have made it more versatile. Priced at Rs 92,900 (ex-showroom), the top-spec variant offers good value for money. If you're in the market for a stylish and sporty 125cc scooter, the Hero Xoom 125 is certainly worth considering.
