If you HAVE to get a performance ICE scooter, the Ntorq is definitely worth checking out

Back when the TVS Ntorq 150 had first arrived at our office last year, just a short spin on it made me keen on using the scooter for a longer duration. Fast forward to a month ago and now it is back for a long term test. And after badgering Jehan a lot, I ended up with its keys.

Also, I had been toying around with the idea of getting a scooter for myself, as a secondary ride. As much as I am happy riding my KTM 390 Duke, I felt a need for a “workhorse”. The Ntorq couldn’t have come in at a better time. Since then, I’ve covered almost 1000km including my everyday commutes, and some short rides.

Scooter Comfort

Riding the Ntorq to office everyday was a welcome change. While my Duke wants to go all out all the time (not that I am complaining), I can either ride the Ntorq at a chill pace, or I can whack open the throttle for a dose of adrenaline.

And that, while being more frugal. I don’t need to worry about mileage, which the KTM has me thinking about sometimes in the wake of increasing fuel prices. At about 40kmpl, it’s almost twice that of my bike.  However, the smaller fuel tank means I am visiting the petrol pump a similar amount. So, in all a win for the Ntorq.

And it also feels so roomy and spacious as compared to the bike. The result? My wife’s happier because now I don’t complain about getting groceries while coming back home.

The Fun

While I haven’t yet had the time to go for long weekend rides, I did some short rides around Pune. I was surprised that the Ntorq could keep up with some bigger bikes on narrow, winding roads. It never felt lacking or slow. Hence, why I am terming it the cheat-code scooter. If you must get a scooter instead of a bike, this is what you need to check out. I had as much fun in those short rides, as I would have had on my Duke. And I was slightly more comfortable as well.

Not Family Friendly

Every coin has two sides. As much fun as the Ntorq is, it’s not a family scooter. While I don’t mind riding alone on it, my wife doesn’t prefer to sit behind me (Are you sure it isn’t just your riding? – Jehan) since the seat is rather compact. She did take it out for a short spin in our complex and found it as much fun to ride it than sitting pillion, though.

A Keeper

I enjoy riding the Ntorq so much that now I want to see how fun and comfortable it is on the longer runs. I want to see if I can do my monthly Pune-Mumbai-Pune runs with it. Not that I doubt that it can, but if it can keep up the fun quotient, or if it fades and discomfort creeps in. Also, I am very keen on seeing if it can do it in one tank, considering its lower range. But at the end of the first one, I am a happy scooter boy.
