TVS Ntorq 150: Long Term Report 2,500km Part 2: Riding In Monsoons & Touring

It gets more fun when it's wet out there

The TVS Ntorq 150 has been with me for over 2 months now, and it’s become my daily rider. In the previous report, I said it’s a cheat code scooter since it’s as fun and as quick as some of the 150cc bikes. Since then, I’ve done a couple of long rides, including a Pune-Mumbai-Pune weekend run. And the recent cloudburst in Pune gave me a chance to experience how it performs when it gets super wet – I am ofcourse talking about the roads here.

Riding In The Rain

I am going to start with this bit since I love riding in the rain. And, long story short, the Ntorq did not disappoint. Be it commuting to the office or a weekend vadapav ride in the rain, it was a ton of fun. The scooter holds its composure on wet roads as long as you don’t ride like an idiot. Never did it make me feel like I should wait in the shade till the rain subsided, for lack of grip or because it felt scary. The only reason I considered stopping was heavy downpour with very low visibility.

And unlike on a bike, I could either dump my bag in the boot or keep it on the floorboard, depending on how heavily it was raining, to keep it dry. +1 point for convenience.

Long-Distance Riding

With great power comes great responsibility, and the ease of touring. While most scooters are discredited for touring because they can’t keep at highway speeds for long, the Ntorq 150 does it effortlessly. While riding down to Mumbai, and back, never did it feel out of breath or out of place. It can stay at highway speeds for extended periods. In fact, riding on the common patch of the Mumbai-Pune expressway did not feel unnerving at all. Only the bumpy surface prevented me from riding even faster.

While the seat is spacious enough for one, I felt a slight discomfort set in after two hours of saddle time.I considered taking a breather but Google Maps said I was not too far from home. So I decided to push on. Had I been on a longer ride, I would have definitely taken a break.

And not taking that break proved helpful since it increased my tolerance level a bit. The next day I rode the same distance back to Pune, without any noticeable discomfort.

The Farewell

It’s time to bid farewell to Ntorq draws near. It’s that scooter, or in fact, a two-wheeler, that I will never mind swinging a leg over – irrespective of where I need to go, or what I need to do. While it keeps me away from my Duke, it ensures I have as much fun. Maybe I should check with my wife if her current scoot needs an upgrade, because I know the right one.

Negatives: Seat can feel slightly uncomfortable after couple hours of non-stop riding
