A monkey bike is something that we find extremely fascinating, but sadly the Honda Navi couldn’t quite get the Indian masses hooked on to the format. Globally though, the Honda Grom 125, or the MSX125 as it is called in certain markets, has been the leader of the class. It is fun for hooning and is properly eclectic. Now there’s a new mini moto from China’s Tromox, called the Mino. It is the electric startup’s first offering and is downright cute and funky.
The Mino gets a fairly European design with a shrunken-down-supermoto stance. Tromox has worked with an Italian designing firm to get the feel just right. In true monkey bike fashion, it has loads of customisable options to make every Mino as vividly different from the other as possible.
The powertrain is quite an honest 2.5kW motor with a top speed of 60kmph. Four battery options are available, ranging from 2.3kWh to 1.3kWh. Tromox claims that the largest battery is good to go for 118km without you needing to stop for juicing up. However, you will have to keep speeds lower than 30kmph to achieve this figure.
It does get proper performance motorcycle level of hardware, though. A USD fork, monoshock, and disc brakes at both ends.
There doesn’t seem to be any indication that Tromox is keen on bringing the Mino to India. The company is currently focusing on Europe and other Asian countries. Would any Indian manufacturer head in this direction, though? We hope so.
