Maruti Suzuki Rock N Road: Redefining the SUV Experience

The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has sailed over the horizon, bidding us goodbye. The hatchback has been officially discontinued to make way for newer models that are more in-sync with the times. A Maruti spokesperson told PTI, "As part of refreshing our product portfolio, we continuously review our portfolio and introduce new models." The company also confirmed that spare parts will continue to be available for the next decade.
Launched back in 2009, its quirky design met with mixed reactions. That said, it did get the basics of a nimble city hatch pretty much spot on. The high seating position, the super light steering, short throw gears and punchy motors made the Ritz quite a hoot. It featured the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Little known fact: the Ritz was available with a 4-speed automatic transmission as well, unlike its elder brother - the Swift.
Notably, the Ritz gets the axe soon after Maruti Suzuki discontinued lower variants of the S-Cross 1.6, as well as the Ciaz RS. A big reason for dropping the hatchback from its lineup is the fact that the newer hatches, such as the Celerio and the Ignis are doing quite well. Moreover, it also gives Maruti Suzuki the flexibility of utilising the manufacturing capacity better.

We like how Maruti Suzuki is reinventing itself. Be it introducing crash-test compliant products well before the mandated time with the Ignis (or even the Ciaz and Ertiga for that matter), or moving to the performance end of the market with the Baleno RS, the brand is doing it all.
