Despite being amongst the first international premium two-wheeler brand to enter Indian market in 2008, Ducati could not capture the Indian two-wheeler market the way it wanted.
In order to sort the existing issues and get a grip of the market, this exotic Italian bike manufacturer will now take over distribution and operations from Precision Motors, who was till now acting as a local third party importer and distributor for Ducati.
The decision was taken considering the poor service, bad brand image, delay and non-delivery of motorbikes and also other problems like poor sales. Ducati sales have virtually ground to a halt over the last several months, largely due to shortcomings on part of the Indian partner. However, Precision Motors will still continue to handle Ducati's affairs.
But Ducati is now back, on its own this time with a clear focus to bury the past and make good hereafter. For the good, Ducati, is now part of the vast Volkswagen Group and will take aid from its parent company in setting up dealerships in India. It is quite possible that Audi dealerships in India could be roped in to set up Ducati dealerships as well.
