The BS6-compliant cruisers are around Rs 7,500 to Rs 11,500 more expensive than the BS4 models

  • The Bajaj Avenger range consists of three variants: Cruise 220, Street 220 and Street 160.
  • All three bikes are expected to come with a fuel-injected engine.
  • Apart from the cleaner motor, and perhaps new colour schemes, the rest of the bike is expected to remain unchanged.
  • The Bajaj Avenger BS6 range is all set to be launched real soon. Ahead of its official launch, we’ve got our hands on the pricelist of the cruisers. The Bajaj Avenger Street 160 BS6 costs Rs 89,536 whereas the Street 220 BS6, as well as the Cruise 220 BS6, will set you back by Rs 1,15,456 (all ex-showroom Mumbai). Here’s a detailed table along with the price premium for the BS6-compliant model:

    Version

    BS6-compliant variant

    BS4-compliant version

    Premium for the BS6-compliant model

    Street 160

    Rs 89,536

    Rs 82,035

    Rs 7,501

    Street 220

    Rs 1,15,456

    Rs 1,03,872

    Rs 11,584

    Cruise 220

    Rs 1,15,456

    Rs 1,03,872

    Rs 11,584

The premium you pay is primarily for the addition of fuel injection. Like most of the BS6-compliant versions of existing BS4-compliant two-wheelers, expect a minor deficit in power or torque in favour of cleaner emissions. The Avenger Street and Cruise 220 make 19.03PS at 8400rpm and 17.5Nm at 7000rpm from its 220cc air-cooled motor with oil cooler. On the other hand, the Avenger Street 160's 160cc air-cooled powertrain produces 15PS at 8500rpm and 13.5Nm at 7000rpm.

Thanks to the addition of fuel injection and other emission restricting components in the exhaust, the kerb weight of the motorcycles are bound to go up too. At present, the BS4-compliant Avenger Street 160 weighs 154kg kerb, whereas the Street 220 weighs 1kg more. On the other hand, the Avenger Cruise 220 tips the scales at 159kg kerb.

Apart from the cleaner engine, Bajaj could also offer new colour schemes for a fresher look. But other than these changes, underpinnings and features are likely to remain intact. The only other rival to the Avenger range in the budget cruiser segment will be the recently unveiled Suzuki Intruder BS6.
