The India-spec model will make less power than the international one

[UPDATE: KTM has launched the new RC 200 and RC 125 in India, with prices starting from Rs 1.82 lakh. For full details, check out our launch story.]

A leaked document suggests that KTM is set to launch the 2022 RC 125 in India soon. It also reveals a few interesting details, for example, the difference in power figures compared to the international-spec model.

Going by the document, the 2022 India-spec RC 125 is expected to make less power than the model sold overseas -- 14.5PS as opposed to 14.95PS.  We reckon this might be due to the underbelly exhaust, which is usually offered on the smaller KTMs in India. Expect torque figures to be the same as before -- 12Nm.

However, the engine has been heavily revised to deliver more performance and make the bike bolt off the line quicker than the current-gen model. So, expect to feel the difference in power delivery on the go. Moreover, the piston is now cooled using a nozzle that directly sprays on the head, which should result in longer life and smoother acceleration.

Other changes include a 40 percent bigger airbox and a new engine map, which, according to KTM, will result in a crisper throttle response. Even the 1347mm wheelbase is 6mm longer than the current BS6 model.

The 2022 model will also feature a bigger 13.7-litre fuel tank, replacing the puny 9.5-litre unit on the outgoing model. KTM has even managed to shave some weight off the bike with a 1.5kg lighter bolt-on subframe and new five-spoke alloy wheels (lighter by over 3.4kg). You also get a larger 320mm front disc for better braking prowess. The ergos of the bike have been revised and its features improved. To know more, click here

Considering all the changes, expect the 2022 KTM RC 125 to be priced at around Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it takes on bikes much larger than itself (displacement-wise).
