Kawasaki has launched the MY27 Z650 S in India at Rs 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom). The new variant gets updated styling and a few ergonomic changes over the standard Z650. Here are all the key details:

Kawasaki Z650 |

All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi
The Z650 S is Rs 33,000 more expensive than the standard Z650.

Compared to the standard Kawasaki Z650, the S variant brings fresher Sugomi styling similar to the bigger Z900. It gets a new headlight cowl with new LED headlights, which give it a sharper and more aggressive look.

The S variant also gets a new handlebar, which is 10 mm lower, 30 mm wider, and is set 40 mm farther from the rider compared to the standard bike. This should make the riding position sportier, while the wider handlebar should give the rider more leverage while attacking corners.
Another visual change is that the standard variant's petal disc brakes at both ends have been replaced with conventional discs on the S variant.

The Z650 S is available in a single Pearl Blizzard White/Candy Lime Green colour scheme, which looks quite premium and gives the bike a sporty appearance.

The bike continues to be powered by a tried-and-tested 649cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that makes 68 PS and 64 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. It also gets a bidirectional quickshifter as an accessory.

In terms of underpinnings, it gets a trellis frame, a conventional telescopic fork and a monoshock. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels and gets twin discs at the front and a single disc at the rear.

In terms of features, the Kawasaki bike gets a 4.3-inch TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity. It also gets dual-channel ABS and traction control as safety features.

The Kawasaki Z650 S brings some visual and ergonomic upgrades over the standard bike, which make it look sportier and more modern. However, Kawasaki has still stuck with a conventional telescopic fork, which reduces its premium appeal. Also, while the engine is a tried-and-tested unit, it falls behind its competitors in terms of performance, and we wish Kawasaki had given the bike modern features like a ride-by-wire throttle and ride modes to make it more competitive compared to its rivals.
Priced at Rs 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom), it is Rs 33,000 more expensive than the standard Kawasaki Z650 and competes with bikes like the Triumph Trident 660.
