Bajaj has launched two new variants of the Pulsar N160 called the Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS. It is placed above the standard Pulsar N160 2V. Here's everything you need to know about it.

Design

The new bikes get the familiar N family design with a projector headlight and LED DRLs. They feature a golden coloured inverted fork, a muscular fuel tank, split seats, and a sleek tail section with split grab handles. The bikes are available in three new colours: Atlantic Blue, Pearl Metallic White, and Brooklyn Black, each paired with unique coloured rims.

Engine and Gearbox

Both variants are powered by a 165cc, 4-valve, single-cylinder engine producing 18.5PS and 14.4Nm (+2.5PS and -0.25Nm over the standard N160 2V), paired with a 5-speed gearbox.

They get four riding modes: Rain, Road, Sport and Off Road, with each mode offering a different power and torque delivery.

Bajaj has also reworked the engine's bore and stroke. The bore has increased to 63.5mm from 58mm, while the stroke has been reduced from 63mm to 52mm. This makes the engine an oversquare unit, which we expect should deliver stronger mid and top-end performance.

The new bikes are now the most powerful in their segment, and Bajaj claims a 0-60 kmph time of 4.5 seconds.

Underpinnings

The bikes get a beefier 37 mm inverted fork instead of the 33 mm unit on the N160 2V, along with a monoshock. They ride on 17-inch wheels and feature a larger 300mm front disc (+20 mm over the N160 2V) and a 230 mm rear disc. The N160 S gets single-channel ABS, while the SS gets dual-channel ABS. Both bikes have a kerb weight of 151 kg, a seat height of 795 mm, and a ground clearance of 165 mm.

Bajaj has also revised the handlebar angle and seat height to make the ergonomics sportier.

Features

The N160 S gets an LCD console with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call and SMS alerts. The SS variant gets a 5-inch TFT console with full Google Maps integration and WiFi connectivity.

Both bikes come with ride-by-wire and Crawl technology, which prevents stalling and makes the bikes easier to ride in stop-and-go traffic. The SS variant additionally gets traction control and adjustable levers.

ZigSays

With the new variants, the Pulsar N160 gets some substantial changes. The existing 2V variants offer a more cost-effective choice, while the new 4V variants are more suitable for those wanting all out performance. The updates have also made the N160 more competitive against its rivals like the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V.
