Made from one egg but serves up two portions, scrambled

The Scram 411 may have been Royal Enfield’s way of dipping toes in the scrambler segment because it appears the upcoming Himalayan 450 will have two scrambler derivatives. We’ve seen the Scram 450 on test, but from the silhouette seen on the investor presentation, it appears like the other variant will be off-road biased.

Being derivatives of the Himalayan 450, these minimal scramblers are expected to have modernity under the skin. The power plant on both bikes will be the same 450cc, liquid-cooled engine we’ve seen on the Himalayan 450 test mule. Expected power- roughly 40PS, which is nearly twice as what’s currently available on the Scram 411 (24.31PS), YUM!

Exact specification of Enfield’s 450cc range is still under wraps, but from what we’ve seen on the Scram 450 test mule, it gets a telescopic front fork paired to a monoshock. It even comes with road-biased alloy rims. The more hardcore variant could get USD from the Himalayan 450 among other off-road hardware like wire-spoke rims. Our guess, the Scram 450 could be launched sometime in the fourth quarter of 2023 and could be priced at Rs 2.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

The sub-500cc scrambler space is small, and these Royal Enfield scramblers will have to rub shoulders with the likes of the Yezdi Scrambler and Husqvarna Vitpilen 250. However, they could outperform the competition thanks to their new and potent liquid-cooled motor.
