Royal Enfield Enters 2026 FIM Flat Track Series With Sherpa FT Mk2

Royal Enfield is stepping into the 2026 FIM Flat Track World Championship with an all-new purpose-built race machine called the Sherpa FT Mk2, based on the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450. The motorcycle is set to make its first appearance at the championship opener in Roden, Netherlands, scheduled for May 9, 2026.

The flat tracker will be piloted by Gary Birtwistle, a two-time British national flat track champion and the founder of Dirt Craft Race School.

At the heart of the Sherpa FT Mk2 lies the tried-and-tested 452cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which first made its debut in the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. In stock form, the engine makes 40PS and 40Nm, but expect the race-spec bike to get a more aggressive tune suited for competition duties.

The MK1 Guerrilla 450 flat tracker had spoke wheels and had the same fuel tank as seen on the road-going Guerrilla. The Mk2 takes things up a notch; the spokes are replaced with alloys, and the fuel tank is a custom, slimmer unit, which should help the bike shed a few more kilos than the Mk1. Apart from that, the exhaust and the paint scheme are also different from the previous iteration.

The Sherpa platform actually makes a lot of sense for flat-track racing. The format demands delicate throttle inputs and precise rear-wheel control while sliding through corners on loose dirt. A torquey single-cylinder engine with strong low- and mid-range punch is exactly what riders need to maintain traction and balance.

We’ve already had a taste of what this platform is capable of on dirt when we rode the Guerrilla Flattracker at the Royal Enfield Slide School Finals in Jaipur earlier this year. The bike genuinely surprised us with how playful and confidence-inspiring it felt while sliding around a flat track.
