After years of speculation and also being showcased officially at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 (Auto Expo 2025), the brand reportedly explained that the delay was due to the requirement of fuel compliance. The brand’s big bikes are said to be updated to comply with E20 fuel. This is because India is aiming to make E20 the norm this year.

Expect fan-favorites like the MT-07 and R7 with the iconic 689cc parallel-twin, famous for its grunt, playful character, and sheer versatility. When Are They Coming?

From October 2025, all bikes sold in India must be compatible with petrol blended with 20% ethanol. Yamaha’s current big-bike line-up wasn’t built with this fuel in mind, especially since E20 isn’t a widespread standard globally. That said, Yamaha has made it clear - they have the technology ready and are actively working on homologation for India.

CBU, CKD, Or DOA?

The bikes will be brought in as CBUs (Completely Built Units), meaning premium hardware, global quality, and all the tech goodies intact. This isn’t the first time Yamaha is launching its big bikes in India. The last big bike that the Japanese brand launched in the country was the enormously wheelie-friendly MT-09 back in 2016 at around Rs 10.20 lakh (ex-showroom). We’d be the happiest if the brand once again prices its upcoming big bikes sensibly like the MT-09, and not go down the *ahem* MT-03 and R3 *cough* path.
