KTM has launched the updated 390 Adventure X for India. Priced at Rs 3,03,125, it is almost Rs 12,000 more than the previous model which costs Rs 2,91,140 (both ex-showroom Delhi). It gets a lot more features, making the ADV an even more appealing motorcycle than before. Also, the deliveries for the updated 390 Adventure X commenced last week.

What's New?

From the outside, the KTM 390 Adventure X looks identical to the outgoing model as it gets the same paint schemes, graphics, and design. It was unofficially dubbed the KTM 390 Adventure X Plus, but officially it is simply called the “updated KTM 390 Adventure X”. Nomenclature aside, the real upgrade lies under the skin:

  • Cruise control

  • Cornering ABS

  • Switchable cornering traction control

  • Three ride modes: Street, Rain, and Off-road 

  • Updated switchgear from the top-spec variant

These features are enabled by the addition of an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), which allows the electronics to function based on lean angle data. This is a huge plus for both everyday safety, and weekend trail-riding confidence. 

What Remains The Same?

Mechanically, the bike remains unchanged as it continues with the same 398cc engine, which makes 46PS and 39Nm. The 19/17-inch alloy wheels setup, the non-adjustable fork and the preload adjustable monoshock, and other aspects of the motorcycle are the same as before. Braking is one of the weaker aspects of the KTM 390 Adventure X due to the organic brake pads it comes with, and unfortunately, that remains unchanged.

Great Value for New Buyers, But What About Existing Owners?

At such a lucrative price tag, the updated 390 Adventure X brings a massive leap in rider aids. It still undercuts the top-spec KTM 390 Adventure S by a noticeable margin while offering all the critical electronic goodies, making it arguably the most value-for-money ADV in the segment right now.

For those who recently purchased the older 390 Adventure X, this update might sting a little lot, especially if you crave for features like cruise control and cornering ABS. KTM should strongly consider offering a retrofit upgrade kit or software update for recent buyers (especially those who bought the bike within the last 3 months) as a goodwill gesture. Not only would this build customer loyalty, but it also shows that KTM values its early adopters. Until then, older 390 Adventure X owners can still take pride in owning a capable, versatile ADV. However, the FOMO is still real as the 2025 update is clearly a significant improvement for a relatively small premium.

Off-road Fans Rejoice!

KTM has heard our prayers and has also launched the ‘Global-Spec’ KTM 390 Enduro R in India at a price tag of Rs 3,53,825 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Sure, it is Rs 15,325 more expensive than the India-spec version (priced at Rs 3,38,500 ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be sold alongside it, but you get a lot more for the premium you pay. Although it uses the same 399cc engine and chassis as the India-spec 390 Enduro R, it stands out with longer-travel suspension at both ends, offering 230mm of wheel travel (30mm more at the front and 25mm more at the rear). As a result of increased suspension travel, the seat height has also gone up from 860mm to 895mm and the ground clearance from 253mm to 277mm. The international spec version also gets more premium Metzeler Karoo 4 off-road tyres. 

Global-Spec KTM 390 Enduro R

An important thing to note is that the Global-Spec version has a kerb weight of 165.8kg. Sure it is 11.2kg lighter than the kerb weight of the India-spec version (weighs 177kg kerb) but the weight excludes parts that are required for Indian market legally. These include grab rails, leg guard, saree guard, lower front fender, dust cover for the fork and a dust seal (the dust covers/ seal may not be compulsory), number plate brackets and bar end weights (bar-end weights aren’t compulsory).

The Global-Spec version is a proper dual-sport motorcycle aimed at serious off-road riders. Despite its hardcore setup, the 390 Enduro R is still more affordable than the 390 Adventure S by Rs 13,874, making it a tempting alternative for enthusiasts seeking pure off-road capability without breaking the bank.
