Kinetic Going After Scooter Buyers? New E-Luna Design Patent Suggests So

More storage, better practicality and higher price?

Quick Highlights:

  • Images of a new Kinetic E-Luna have surfaced online

  • Changes include alloy wheels and storage compartment

  • Could command a premium of around Rs 4,000 over the current top-variant of E-Luna

Electric vehicles have gained immense popularity over the past few years due to their low running costs and the riding experience they provide with instant torque. They make the most sense when it comes to commercial mobility space due to the low running costs, so business owners find it more economical compared to ICE vehicles. Kinetic Green brought the iconic Luna back from the dead, that too in an electric avatar, called the e-Luna. It is available for both consumers and business owners, now it seems like Kinetic Green has its sights on electric scooter buyers with an upcoming variant that has recently surfaced online.

More Practical Than Before

The first and the most major difference we can see is the addition of a new triangular compartment on the floorboard of the moped. It will most likely be a storage compartment to secure small knick-knacks, just like how an underseat storage for a scooter is. We also expect this to be removable for added versatility (should come in handy while stowing travel bags).

Look closely, and another major difference is the addition of alloy wheels. All the variants of the E-Luna, which are currently on sale in India, come with spoke wheels as standard. The addition of alloy wheels will ease the hassle of repairing punctures as it will be compatible with tubeless tyres.

Apart from these changes, the Kinetic E-Luna will likely remain unchanged. One may also speculate that the compartment might house a bigger battery pack. However, it is unlikely because a large battery pack will change the center of gravity of the e-moped, so Kinetic will have to heavily modify the chassis to accommodate such change. However, the frame looks untouched in the patent images.

Where Does It Stand?

Kinetic’s E-Luna lineup starts from Rs 69,990 for the base X2 and goes up to Rs 82,490 for the X3 Prime. Expect the new model to be the top variant in their lineup and command a slight premium over the X3 Prime variant, possibly priced at around Rs 86,000. All prices ex-showroom, Bengaluru. While it may not be a straightforward rival to electric scooters, Kinetic will be able to appeal to a larger set of audience with a more practical e-Luna. The new E-Luna is expected to launch in the next few months in India.
