When a car claims to be a true-blue family mover, we expect more than just a long list of features in a brochure. We want space. Real, usable, everyday space. And that’s exactly where the Kia Carens Clavis comes into its own. While it might look sleek and compact on the outside, step inside and you’ll see why this is one of the rare few MPVs in its class that can genuinely seat six to seven average-sized adults without squabbles over legroom or headroom.
Getting into the second row of the Carens Clavis is so easy, you would think the car was inviting you in. No gymnastics required here, simply walk in. The seat height is friendly even for elderly family members, and there’s no awkward climb to deal with.
Kia offers captain seats on the top-spec HTX+ variant, while other trims come with a bench seat layout, ensuring that the seven-seater configuration remains standard for most buyers.
Once you are seated, it gets better. With the driver’s seat adjusted for someone six feet tall, there’s plenty of knee room, foot room, and headroom for another six-footer sitting right behind. The width is also generous enough for three average-sized adults to sit comfortably without shoulder wars breaking out.
That said, in the captain seat version, space remains good, but taller occupants might notice the short backrest doesn’t offer enough upper back support. A minor hiccup in what is otherwise a well-thought-out cabin.
There is a foldable tray on the co-driver’s side, with a cupholder and a tablet holder, which should come in handy for those road trip snack breaks or Zoom calls from the road.
The only oddity? The air purifier system is placed on the driver’s side of the second row. It awkwardly intrudes into the knee room, which feels like a design afterthought in an otherwise practical space.
Usually, the third row is where adults are sent as punishment. Not here. Getting into the last row is easy thanks to the one-touch tumble feature. Press a button and the second row gets out of your way, a thoughtful touch, especially for families with kids or grandparents. The co-driver’s side even gets an electric tumble function, adding a dose of convenience.
Once you're in, you'll be pleasantly surprised. For a car this size, the third row is actually usable for adults. Yes, really. A six-footer might find their knees brushing the second row when it’s fully slid back, but it’s not uncomfortable. Headroom is on the tighter side, and foot room is limited under the captain seats, but there’s enough space to slide one leg into the centre aisle and get comfy.
Two adults can fit here without elbowing each other for survival, a feat few cars in this segment can boast.
Whether it’s your daily school run, a road trip to the hills, or a weekly grocery haul, the Carens Clavis is built to adapt.
With all three rows in use, you still get 216 litres of boot space, enough for two small trolleys and a backpack.
Fold the 3rd row (50:50 split), and you unlock boot space worthy of a small cargo van – perfect for large suitcases or bulk shopping.
Storage has been intelligently thought out: tablets and bottles in the third row, cooled can-holders and trays in the second, and cooled cupholders, glovebox, and under-armrest storage for those in the front.
The door design deserves a shoutout – bottle holders, small-item slots, and clever under-armrest space make every door a mini-organiser.
Of course, no car is perfect. If you have broad shoulders, the seats might feel a bit narrow, especially compared to what’s offered in rivals like the Maruti Suzuki XL6.
But for most average-sized Indian families, the Carens Clavis will do just fine.
The Kia Carens Clavis isn’t just a smart-looking MPV, it’s a cleverly packaged, highly usable family car. With adult-friendly comfort in all three rows, clever storage solutions, and a layout that makes long journeys a breeze, it’s one of the most practical 6-7-seaters available in the market today.
If your idea of comfort extends beyond just the driver’s seat, the Carens Clavis is one of the few that truly delivers on its promise.
