The Clavis comes with a more enhanced safety package! Do the extra features make it a 5-star worthy candidate?

Kia recently launched a heavily refreshed version of their much-loved MPV, the Carens, which they have named Kia Carens Clavis, and is priced from Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The Clavis not only improves on the outgoing model’s styling and interior elements, but also takes the safety quotient a step further thanks to the new safety features.

In this report, we take you through all the safety features of the Clavis, along with what’s good and what could have been better in the department. So, if you are in the market searching for a capable MPV that boasts a plethora of safety features, then you have come to the right article!

Safety Should Be Standard!

The good thing about the Clavis is that it comes with plenty of safety features right from the base variant itself. This means that you won’t miss out on most safety features, even if you go for the entry-level trim.

From the base-spec HTE variant itself, you get features like 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, ESC, 3-point seatbelt for all passengers, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child mounts, hill start assist and hill descent control and all-wheel disc brakes. These features take care of your basic safety needs, ensuring that safety remains top priority.

ADAS And More

In addition to the standard safety package, the Clavis also offers an enhanced and advanced safety suite. From the HTX variant onwards, the Clavis gets front parking sensors that make parking a whole lot easier. HTX Plus onwards, it comes equipped with a rear wiper and washer, a rear defogger and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold (automatic variants only).

From the one-below-top variant, the Clavis comes with a 360-degree camera, blind view monitor and a dual-camera dashcam. These features complete the Clavis’ package, but there is more…

…ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System is being offered with the Clavis, but there is a catch. The comprehensive safety suite only comes with the top-spec HTX Plus variant and can be had with the turbo-petrol variant only.

The ADAS package includes features such as a forward collision warning and auto braking, lane keep assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control and more.

But, Is It Safe?

The pre-facelift Carens had scored a 3-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test in 2024. With the Clavis, Kia has definitely improved the safety package with the new and updated safety tech on board. But will the Clavis fare better than its predecessor in the safety test? Only time will tell.

The smaller Syros SUV recently achieved a perfect score in the NCAP ratings, giving Kia owners a bit of confidence in the safety department.

The Clavis appears to be safer than its predecessor, and with its loaded safety suite, it promises to be a compelling option. We are now looking forward to Kia sending the Clavis for testing, after which, we will also be able to comment more on the Clavis’ safety. That being said, it would have been even better if Kia had offered ADAS across powertrains.

Price And Rivals

The Kia Carens Clavis is priced between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 21.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes with rivals like the Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Rumion, and Toyota Innova Crysta. The Clavis is safer now, but we will have to wait for Kia to give us good news (or not) about its crash test ratings. At least, Kia has offered a safety package that will give you the peace of mind that you would want at the price point.
