Kia’s getting ready to drop the curtain on its newest MPV, the Kia Carens Clavis, and while the official launch is just a day away, we have got a pretty good idea of what to expect, especially when it comes to pricing. Think of the Clavis as the more stylish, more feature-packed sibling of the standard Carens. It borrows the basics from the regular model but adds enough flair and features to justify a premium badge.
So, how much more will you have to shell out for this ‘Carens Clavis? Let’s break down the design, interior, features, rivals, and what we think the price tag will look like when Kia finally pulls the wraps off tomorrow.
The Clavis is still very much a Carens underneath, but it gets a bold, new face, clearly influenced by Kia’s EV5, with triangular triple-pod LED headlamps, a redesigned grille, and connected LED tail lamps that scream ‘2025-ready’.
The 17-inch alloys look sharp and bring more road presence than the standard car, while the rear bumper is chunkier with faux skid plates for that extra rugged flavour.
You can have the Clavis in eight exterior colours, seven borrowed from the Carens, and one new shade called Ivory Silver Gloss, which sounds like a nail polish, but looks rather good in sunlight.
Step inside the Clavis, and the cabin greets you with a plush navy and beige dual-tone theme. The layout is similar to the Carens, but with a few upmarket touches. For starters, there’s the dual 12.3-inch screen setup, a design-forward two-spoke steering wheel (borrowed from the Kia Syros), and smart folding tray tables behind the front seats.
Depending on variant, you get six or seven-seat configurations, but it’s the little touches like the tactile AC/infotainment toggle buttons, premium textures, and a more cohesive design that truly separate it from its sibling.
Kia didn’t hold back when it came to stuffing the Clavis with features. You get a panoramic sunroof, front ventilated seats, a powered driver’s seat with memory, and a 9-speaker Bose sound system. Wireless charging, auto climate control, connected car tech, all present and accounted for.
And yes, Level-2 ADAS makes its debut here, bringing lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and even a driver attention alert system to make sure you don’t daydream too hard in traffic.
Safety kit includes six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, four-wheel disc brakes, and ISOFIX mounts. While it ticks nearly every box, the lack of boss mode, rear ventilated seats, and dual-zone climate control might leave a few potential buyers wanting more.
Kia has not tinkered with the recipe here, the Carens Clavis gets the same engines and gearbox options as the regular Carens. That means you get a choice of two petrol engines and one diesel. Enthusiasts will be happy to know that the turbo-petrol now also gets a 6-speed manual option, because sometimes, you just want to do the shifting yourself.
Here's how the engine lineup stacks up:
Engine |
1.5-litre NA petrol |
1.5-litre turbo-petrol |
1.5-litre diesel |
Power |
115 PS |
160 PS |

253 Nm |
250 Nm |
Transmission |

The transmission game on the Carens Clavis is anything but straightforward. Depending on the variant and engine combo, you will be picking between a manual, iMT, torque converter automatic, or a dual-clutch transmission. Yep, there’s something for everyone, but you might probably need a spreadsheet (or our table) to keep track of who gets what.
Here’s the variant-wise expected pricing (all figures ex-showroom):

So yes, the Carens Clavis is clearly not aiming for the wallet-huggers. It’s targeting those who want more and are willing to pay for it.
The Carens Clavis is entering a rather crowded MPV party. It will lock horns with the Maruti XL6, Toyota Rumion, Maruti Ertiga, and even its own sibling, the Carens. But with its positioning and feature set, the Clavis could also nibble at the heels of more premium offerings like the Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, and Maruti Invicto.
That said, whether buyers perceive the Clavis as a value-loaded premium MPV or an overdressed Carens will entirely depend on how competitive Kia gets with the final pricing.
With its sharper design, richer feature list, and a hint of EV-inspired styling, the Kia Carens Clavis is clearly aimed at buyers who want more bling and tech from their MPV without jumping straight to something like the Innova Hycross.
Will the Clavis be worth the upgrade? We’ll find out when Kia announces the final pricing tomorrow, but on paper, it sure looks like a strong contender in the premium MPV space!
