Some units of the GS could have a starting issue, but Indian owners might not have to worry about it.

Relay issues still persist

Quick Highlights

  • BMW R 1300 GS recalled over a faulty relay

  • Recall for bikes made before March 18 2024

  • Faulty bikes face stalling issue

BMW has issued a recall for the R 1300 GS bike internationally. Bikes made before March 18, 2024 include a faulty relay resulting in starting issues. This comes in after the brand had held a service camp earlier in the year to rectify the issue, which remains persistent. Bikes manufactured after the aforementioned date get the correct relay.

BMW will also roll-out a software update in August to complement the hardware change. As much as 25,000 units of the ADV seem to have been affected by the issue, however only 8 of them have been reported for a burnt/melted relay.

That said, the ADV was launched in India in June, and the bikes imported for our market should all be manufactured after the aforementioned date. Which is mostly why the recall hasn’t been issued in india.

The BMW R 1300 GS was launched in India at Rs 20.95 lakh (ex-showroom). During our first ride review, we found out the new GS is super comfortable. The seat is spacious, and it can make touring seem luxurious. However, it’s not the most powerful ADV in India, if that matters to you. But riding off-road feels like a breeze. And to top that off, BMW has equipped the GS with tons of electronics to elevate the riding experience.
