With the launch of the 2026 Kawasaki KLX230, the Japanese brand has democratised off-road riding and how! Pegged at a mouth-wateringly alluring 1.99 lakh rupees, it is one of the most affordable ways to explore the untamed trails with a machine from Team Green. While the KLX230 is a road-legal dualsport, Kawasaki also has launched another option for the more hardcore enthusiasts - the offroad-only 2026 KLX230R S, at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom).

Kawasaki has updated the engine to make a wee bit more power and torque, at 19PS and 19Nm (0.9PS & 0.7Nm more). We loved the punchy feel from the motor in the previous-gen bike. Pair that up with the slightly better tune in the 2026 model, while keeping the featherweight 139kg kerb intact, the KLX will certainly punch above its weight. The light clutch action and the slick gearbox make light work of trails. The transmission is tractible, and you can also cruise at triple digit speeds with ease.

As if this wasn’t impressive, you also have the option to take on even deeper wilderness with the KLX230R S, armed with even more hardcore dirt tyres, greater ground clearance, and more importantly - a whole 10kg lighter, at 129kg kerb! Colin Chapman famously said “Adding power makes you faster on the straights, subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere” - and it looks like Kawasaki has taken the mantra seriously.

Like any Kawasaki worth its salt, the KLX230 is pretty bang-on when it comes to underpinnings. The long-travel telescopic fork and the rear Uni-Trak monoshock are tuned in such a way that it will make you as cool as Robbie Madison but at a fraction of skills required. With a generous 220mm front and 223mm rear wheel travel, the KLX230 has pothole-ridden roads for breakfast.

The 290mm front and 230mm rear round disc with single channel ABS (ABS is installed on the front wheel, but not on the rear). Riders can opt to disable the ABS function according to their preference which will promptly remind you to take it easy when things get a little too exciting on the trails.

In a sea of fancy motorcycles, the Kawasaki KLX230 is an honest-to-god machine that is designed to let you explore nature to the fullest. And just like nature, this one’s uncomplicated and comes with just the right set of tools for the job. Now with the new pricing, it stands toe-to-toe with its primary rivals.

If you’re a budding off-road enthusiast the Kawasaki KLX230 is an excellent option to get down and dirty. Afterall, as they say - mastering your skills offroad will make road riding a breeze, and the KLX230 is the perfect bike for this pursuit. It is also the only choice for Japanese fanboys who are looking to enter the world of trail riding.
