Kawasaki has launched the KLX230 dual-sport bike in India at Rs 3,30,000 (ex-showroom). It is available in two colour options: Lime Green and Battle Grey. 

The Kawasaki KLX230 has the typical dual-sport styling with the high-rise, beak-like front fender, flat single-piece seat and the braced handlebar. It is powered by a 233cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 18.1PS and 18.3Nm and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. 

 

The bike is built on a perimeter frame and the suspension setup consists of a 37mm telescopic fork with 240mm wheel travel and a linked monoshock with 250mm wheel travel. The braking setup consists of a 265mm front disc brake and a 220mm rear disc brake. It has a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear setup. The bike has a wheelbase of 1,370mm, ground clearance of 265mm, seat height of 880mm and a fuel tank capacity of 7.6 litres. 

In terms of features, the KLX230 has an LCD instrument console with smartphone connectivity for call, SMS and email alerts via the Kawasaki Rideology application. The bike also gets switchable ABS, which turns off the rear ABS for some sideways fun. 

The Kawasaki KLX 230 is a direct rival to the Hero XPulse 200 4V, which has dominated the sub-250cc dual-sport segment for the past few years. It seemed like the segment was going to get even more exciting when the KLX230 was unveiled in India a few months back. But with a steep price of Rs 3.30 lakh {the XPulse 200 4V’s prices range from Rs 1,51,500 to Rs 1,67,500 (both ex-showroom)}, it feels like Kawasaki has missed the mark in providing true competition to the XPulse’s market presence.
