Yamaha has taken the veils off its 2023 YZF-R125, the smallest supersport motorcycle sold by the Japanese marque. As expected, the bike now dons the new design language seen on the R15 V4 and the YZF-R7. But the updates are more than skin-deep, making this a more capable learner tool.
The Yamaha YZF-R125 gets a completely overhauled bodywork borrowed from the YZF-R15 V4. So, you get a centrally mounted LED projector headlight flanked by LED DRL on either side. The new fairing design has a great aerodynamic advantage, as we have experienced with the R15 V4.

Along with the aesthetics, the R125 also borrows its electronic aids from the 155cc siblings. So, it now features a traction control system but it’s hard to justify the use, especially with just 14.8PS on offer. The bike is also quickshifter-ready, with the electronic aid offered as an optional extra.
An interesting addition to this model is the new TFT console, which debuted on the new MT-125 and the MT-07 recently. This is complemented by a new R1-inspired switchgear. This unit also boasts of smartphone connectivity with call and SMS alerts. We expect this update to come to the R15 V4 next year.

The new Yamaha R125 continues with the same liquid-cooled engine, belting out 14.8PS and 11.5Nm torque. A 41mm KYB USD fork and monoshock handle the suspension duties, while a 292mm/220mm disc brake setup drops the anchor on this bike.

The 2023 Yamaha R125 won’t be coming to India; however, in the European markets where it competes with the likes of the KTM RC 125 and the Suzuki GSX-125R, Team Blue’s supersport comes out an enticing proposition.
