Expert's Opinion on Xtreme 250R
Overview

Fun, Fast And Affordable!
- The Hero Xtreme 250R is a fun, fast and pretty affordable street naked motorcycle
- The bike is promising as it offers decent features, good levels of performance and great handling characteristics
Design

A Proper Street Naked
- The Hero Xtreme 250R has a very sporty design which will allow it to stand out
- The low-slung headlight, wide tank extensions, tall fuel tank and sleek tail section come together quite well to make it a handsome motorcycle
- The switchgear too feels good to use
- It has minor quality issues such as inconsistent weld lines, and plastics which buzz at higher RPMs
Performance & Mileage

Peppy And Engaging
- The 250cc motor i has a good low and mid-range grunt
- 30kmph in the 5th gear is stress-free and the bike picks up speed easily
- On highways, 100kmph at 6,000rpm on the 6th gear feels smooth while having more than enough power to perform quick overtakes
- The engine isn’t the most refined and the footpegs buzz slightly at 6,000rpm
- Gearbox feels a little vague while shifting especially if you are wearing riding boots
Handling

A Charmer
- The bike is really stable in a straight line at high speeds
- Requires minimal effort on the bars to change directions
- On winding roads, the bike feels completely at home and inspires a lot of confidence
- It is stable through corners and even minor mid-corner bumps and undulations don’t seem to upset the bike at all
- Brakes are powerful and allows the bike to shed speed quickly
- Misses out on a front radial tyre which would have increased the handling characteristics even further
- One will have to pull the brake lever hard to stop at the bike quickly as it lacks the initial bite
Ride Quality

Best Of Both Worlds
- The bike handles mid-corner bumps and stays absolutely stable
- While tackling bad roads, the ride feels firm, but it handles larger bumps and potholes quite well
- It remains completely stable even after going through bumps and potholes
- Wavy, concrete roads unsettle the bike and it keeps bobbing around and makes the ride unpleasant
Comfort & Storage

Surprisingly Good
- The motorcycle is quite comfortable and easy to live with on an everyday basis
- Riders above 5’7” can easily flatfoot the bike
- The riding posture is upright though with a slight lean
- The seat is long and spacious enough for the rider to move around
- The pillion seat too is well padded with enough space for longer rides
- With a wide mid-section, riders below 5’7” will tip-toe on the bike despite the 806mm seat height
- The pillion seat can be a bit of a pain to climb on as it is set up quite high
Features

Could Have Been Better
- Gets an LCD console which supports smartphone connectivity and has a lap & drag timer
- Comes with dual-channel ABS with two ABS modes: Track and Road
- The console is really cluttered and feels outdated
- It is very hard to read under direct sunlight
- The display is very hard to navigate through especially to change the ABS model
Verdict

Should you buy the Hero Xtreme 250R?
- The Hero Xtreme 250R is a great all-rounder motorcycle which is calm in the city and is more than capable enough on the highways and around twisties
- Despite having fewer features, it makes up for by providing a great riding experience, especially at the price it comes at
- This makes the Xtreme 250R a great motorcycle for anyone who is looking to upgrade from a 150cc commuter motorcycle
Key Things to Know about Xtreme 250R
Upside
- Great performance across the rev range

- Brakes could do with sharper initial bite
- The LCD console feels cluttered and dated
