Buying a new motorcycle is a two-part equation – deciding a motorcycle you like and then wondering about the ownership experience, service support, and service costs. Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles have nailed the design and the ride experience of their bikes, making the first part of the equation easy.
About the second part, we have talked about it in our earlier stories. But to explain briefly, the first four services for Jawa Yezdi bikes cost about Rs 1,500, Rs 1,300, Rs 2,800, and Rs 5,300, respectively. These services come in at 1,000km, 6,000km, 12,000km, and 18,000km mileage intervals. If you want to know more, here’s a full explainer on service costs & intervals of Jawa and Yezdi bikes. Today, we are taking it a step further and deep diving into a typical Jawa service.
We tagged along with Nupoor Kulkarni, an avid motorcyclist and a 2021 Jawa 42 owner, for a 22,000km service of her beloved Jawa bike. Nupoor has been a long-time Zigwheels reader, and has been to Ladakh, and even Umling La, the highest motorable road, with her 2021 Jawa 42. Nupoor says she has had a fantastic experience with Jawa, right from buying the bike, to getting it serviced.
Coming to the service of Nupoor’s Jawa 42, it was a routine servicing of the bike with an engine oil change and other maintenance tidbits. She had already booked a service appointment beforehand; that always makes things smoother when you arrive at the service centre. Reaching the service centre, Nupoor was greeted by the service advisor. He had some questions regarding the issue she was facing with the bike, if any. After understanding all of her concerns, he then inspected the bike personally. He went on to go through the bike’s basic functions like the starter button, horn, console, side stand and other bits to make sure they were working properly.
After the inspection, the service advisor explained to her the plan for her 22,000km service and then drew up a service quotation. Only after she had thoroughly reviewed the quotation and was satisfied with her discussion did the service advisor actually take in the bike for service.
The bike was then rolled on to the service bay, where it was to be serviced. First and foremost, the technician connected a diagnostics device to the bike via the OBD (on-board diagnostics) port. This is a full systems check that lets the advisor know if there are any underlying electronic problems. Once verified that everything was okay, he proceeded with the rest of the service.
Here the Jawa 42 received a full oil change, oil and air filter change, which were the most important part of this service. The chain was also lubed and the brake fluid replaced, along with a quick inspection of the disc brakes and brake pads, amongst other routine service procedures. After that, the service technician resolved all the concerns Nupoor had raised. Once done, the bike was taken to an in-house washing area, where it was thoroughly cleaned and given a good wipe.
All of this got done in just 2 hours but since the proof of the pudding is always in eating it, we asked Nupoor to take her Jawa 42 for a short ride to find out how it was serviced. We met her after she had completely relished her freshly serviced bike. We all know that feeling, don’t we?
Nupoor came back with a wide grin on her face, having enjoyed the proverbial pudding. She stated that she was properly guided through every step of her bike’s service. Her experience was further improved because of the polite and courteous staff at the service centre, who kept her well-informed, even during the short duration of the service. But the bigger proof, that matters to almost every one, is the service cost. After about 22,000km, Nupoor paid just Rs 2,300 for the entire service. That’s less than what a fancy family dinner costs!
