The X440 had its intention in the right place - an affordable thumper that’s a gateway to Harley-Davidson lifestyle motorcycling minus the obscene price tag. However, its design wasn’t the most eye-catching. Well, Harley seems to have addressed this in the most American capitalistic way, unveiling a new variant rather than a refresh of the existing model – enter the X440 T.
The biggest eye-sore in the regular Harley-Davidson X440 was the straight-cut rear fender that looked really out of place. However, the redesigned tail section in the T variant looks a lot more cohesive. In a way, the tail section reminds us of the legendary XR1200 of yore.

One of the biggest complaints about the X440 was the jarringly bad accelerator cable management on the handlebar. It screamed cost-cutting, and that’s not a good look on the premium badge. How have they managed to do this you ask? Well, Harley has now moved to using a ride-by-wire throttle over a cable setup. With this, Harley could also add rider electronic aids like riding modes, traction control, and more.
The switch to bar-end mirrors is a small change that makes a big difference. They instantly lift this Harley-Davidson bike’s visual quality up a tier, and help the front end look wider, lower and more aggressive.

The 440cc air-oil cooled single, chassis, and core hardware components appear unchanged. And honestly, that’s not really where the X440 struggled. The motor was always the highlight, so Harley has gone the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” route. We’re not complaining either.
The X440 T is Harley’s second attempt to give Indian riders a stylish, premium, non-Royal Enfield bike in the Rs 2-3 lakh zone. While it looks a lot better than before, we’d really like it if Harley adds cruise control with the ride-by-wire system. This is especially after its desi dada Hero MotoCorp has given this feature to even smaller 125cc bikes.

As for its expected price, we reckon it might cost around Rs 10,000 more than the top-end S variant, which retails at Rs 2,79,500 (ex-showroom). It will be launched in India on December 6, so it’s just a matter of time. Stay tuned to ZigWheels for more updates!
