It's the second concept to show up after the Curvv earlier this month

  • Sports a clean and futuristic silhouette with butterfly doors, an illuminated pixel front panel, and Tata logo-shaped LED DRL and tai lamp bar.

  • Gets a minimalistic cabin with rotating front seats, and a single digital screen on the steering wheel handling all in-car functions via voice commands.

  • All seats have dedicated speakers, with an aroma dispenser adding ambience.

  • Electric powertrain will be capable of offering a range exceeding 500km.

  • First Gen3 production-spec model to arrive in 2025.

Tata Motors has been on a bit of a roll when it comes to unleashing electric vehicle (EV) concepts. First came the Curvv, and now, the carmaker has taken the wraps off the Avinya electric concept. This crossover gives us a small glimpse into what to expect from Tata’s all-electric Generation 3 architecture and boy can we wait for the first production model to show up around 2025.

While the Avinya is a crossover, it’s actually got the functionality of an MPV as it measures 4.3 metres  long. Tata has really pushed the boundaries of how far one can stretch the wheelbase, as the wheels are placed as close to the edges of the vehicle as possible.

Speaking of style, the Avinya is clean, yet futuristic and its design has not been constrained by the need to accommodate an ICE powertrain. Up front, there’s all sorts of illumination, with pixel lighting for the front panel. The coolest bit is undoubtedly the LED DRL which spans the entire front fascia and forms the Tata logo. Above it is a sleek pair of LED headlights

While the crossover-like stance is clear with a slightly tapering roofline, the eye-catcher is the connected taillight bar which is also shaped like the Tata logo. In fact the full-width tail lamp spans to such an extent that it sprouts out the sides of the EV like an aerodynamic wing. Aside from the massive turbine-like wheels, the car has cameras in the place of mirrors.

Open up the butterfly doors, and you’re treated to a lounge on wheels inside. You’ve got rotating front seats, oodles of space at the rear, and a very minimalist dashboard. In fact, aside from the small, yet wide screen below the windscreen, as well as the mirror camera displays, the important digital screen present in the cabin is on the steering wheel and it controls all functions via voice commands. For those who’ve got a knack for good music, the Avinya has a speaker in each seat. Add on an aroma dispenser and you’ve got a relaxing ambience too.

While Tata Motors has yet to divulge technical details, it did hint that the Avinya will offer more than 500km of range. What’s more, the battery used will support ultra-fast charging using which one can add a minimum 500 kms of range in under 30 minutes. For reference, EVs underpinned by Tata’s Generation 2 EV architecture are expected to have a claimed range of 400 to 500km. The reason why more range under the Generation 3 platform is possible is because there is more freedom in packaging

Before we see the Avinya in production form, Tata is slated to launch the production-spec Curvv by 2024 as an electric model first before offering an ICE option. Tata will also bring in two new EVs based on current ICE cars before these two models arrive.
