2025 Tata Sierra And Avinya X Concept Win Red Dot Design Awards; Here’s A Closer Look At These Design Heroes….

Tata Motors has revealed that its 2025 Tata Sierra and the Tata Avinya X Concept have both won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. While Tata has planned for the Sierra to launch in December this year, the Avinya X, still in concept stage, is set to launch as an EV in 2027. Let’s take a look at the two winners:

2025 Tata Sierra: Legend, Reborn!

Let’s start with the 2025 Tata Sierra which is slated to launch very soon. The compact SUV which will sit below the Harrier gets a modern yet retro-cool design theme all across. At the front, it gets a Black strip encompassing the grille, headlights and the Tata badge for a suave and smart front-end. 

Move on towards the side, and the slightly boxy proportions give it a muscular look without going too overboard keeping it classy and subtle at the same time.

Its muscular fenders with gloss black cladding along with a black roof insert to mimic the iconic window design of the original Sierra ensuring its presence is felt. At the rear, the minimalist theme continues with an almost-vertical windshield and tailgate with a connected LED taillamp strip adding sophistication and a premium vibe to the whole package.

Besides this, the Sierra will be powered by a choice of 2-litre diesel and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines with manual and automatic transmissions. A fully-electric version will also be launched alongside for those looking out for sustainability

In terms of features it will get a triple screen setup for the digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system and a passenger entertainment screen with an airy and spacious cabin. It could also get features such as a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, ventilated and powered front seats, and a premium sound system. In terms of safety, it is likely to be sorted with equipment such as 7 airbags, Level 2 ADAS suite, electronic stability control and hill hold assist forming part of it’s armour.

Tata Avinya X Concept: Tata’s Very Own Luxury EV

Showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, the Tata Avinya X Concept offers an insight into the future design philosophy of Tata Motors. Slated for launch in 2027, the Avinya X will be based on JLR’s EV-only Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA). In terms of the design, it gets a ‘T-shaped’ LED DRL strip at the front with a blanked-out grille. 

Towards the side, there is a classy two-tone theme with the upper half finished a contrasting black shade while the lower half gets body-coloured. Maybach much? Perhaps. The rear end is where the Avinya X truly stands out though with a coupe-like roofline and a sharply raked windshield offering an athletic and crisp feel. Just like the front you also get ‘T-shaped’ DRLs here along with glossy black cladding on the bumper for that bond-villain vibe.

While we are yet to see what the Avinya X looks like inside, the steering wheel design will be all-new based on the patent that Tata has filed earlier this year. It is likely to get features such as a panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, tri-zone climate control, powered and ventilated front seats and wireless chargers. Safety-wise it could have 7 airbags, a Level 2 ADAS suite, electronic stability control and hill hold assist and a lot more ground-breaking tech don’t know yet.

The Red Dot Design Award is a prestigious prize bestowed upon the best prototypes, designs, communication and branding works as well as products which showcase extraordinary design quality. It is awarded by Red Dot GmbH & Co. KG, under the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen located in Essen, Germany. Originally started in 1955, the Award stands for a well respected mark for design houses and prototype concepts, sort of an Oscar award for designs if you will.

It is encouraging to see in-house designs made by Indian carmakers like Tata Motors winning in front of western competition and just goes on to show the effort and hard work that has gone behind the scenes for the brand’s turnaround. We have been eagerly waiting to see the production-ready version of the Sierra in flesh and with it winning this Red Dot Design award, we are sure that it will turn out to be quite the looker. On the other hand, the Avinya X Concept shows us how far Tata motors has come around to give a proper fight to western luxury carmakers’ design studios too!
