  • XUV300 EV to be called the XUV400 electric.
  • The electric XUV will be around 4.2-metres long.
  • Specifications will be benchmarked against the Tata Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max.
  • Will boast distinctive styling touches for an unique identity compared to the donor XUV300.
  • Prices likely to start around Rs 15 lakh.

Mahindra has confirmed that the all-electric XUV300 SUV will be called the XUV400 electric. It will be revealed in September 2022. The announcement was made when British International Investment announced it will invest up to Rs 1,925 crore in Mahindra’s new subsidiary ‘EV Co’ that will primarily develop electric four-wheeler vehicles.

The XUV400 electric will be Mahindra’s first long-range EV as its specifications will be benchmarked against the Tata Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max. For your reference, the Tata EV comes in two variants: 129PS electric motor with a 30.2kWh battery and a 143PS motor with a 40.5kWh battery pack.

Take a look at the detailed specifications for your reference:

Another important point is that the XUV400 electric will measure around 4.2-metres long and thus, will not sit under the sub-4-metre mark like the XUV300. That’s because electric vehicles, unlike ICE models, don’t have any tax benefits for being under the 4-metre mark. We suspect this could be the reason why the electric SUV is getting its own name.

One more aspect that will be different from the XUV300 is the electric SUV’s styling. The EV will have distinctive elements such as a closed-off grille, redesigned headlamps, and bespoke alloys. The main changes, though, will be in the rear profile due to the extra length and redesigned LED tail lamps exclusive to the electric SUV.

Prices are likely to start around the Rs 15 lakh mark and it will be an alternative to the Tata Nexon EV Max, as well as more premium offerings like the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric. Plus, Mahindra will be revealing three electric concepts on August 15, which will be under its Born range of EVs that will be based on a dedicated EV platform.
