The Tata Curvv EV is the carmaker’s newest product and probably its biggest launch this year. The Curvv EV is positioned as a premium mass market EV with a unique SUV-coupe design to strengthen its case. In this article, we will be comparing it with the Mahindra XUV400, which is a well-packaged electric SUV that ticks most of the boxes. Keeping in mind the pricing, features, dimensions and powertrain, let’s find out which SUV would prevail and get the win in our head-to-head comparison:

Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh |
Rs 15.49 to Rs 19.39 Lakh |
* Prices of the Tata Curvv EV are introductory.
As seen in the table above, the Curvv EV is the more expensive SUV of the two. There is a difference of exactly Rs 2 lakh for the entry-level variants, but that extends to more than Rs 2.5 lakh for the top-spec variant. Let’s see if the premium is justified:
The Tata Curvv EV sports an SUV-coupe design with modern elements that are in line with Tata’s new design language. Its key design elements include vertically-placed LED headlights, width-spanning LED DRLs, connected LED tail lamps, and a sloping roofline. The XUV400, on the other hand, has a more conventional design which has now started to look a little outdated, especially after its ICE version, the XUV300, received a facelift (XUV 3XO) this year.
Let’s take a look at the dimensions of both these SUVs:

In terms of width and height, there isn’t a lot to separate the two. The Curvv EV is slightly longer overall, but the XUV400 has a 40 mm longer wheelbase. The boot space is where the game changes, as the Curvv EV offers 122 litres of extra space over the XUV400.

The Tata Curvv EV is the evident winner here, with extra features such as more speakers, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered tailgate, ADAS, electronic parking brake with auto hold and more. The XUV400 might not be on par in terms of equipment but still packs a well-equipped cabin covering all the essentials and creature comforts that you would need.

Both SUVs get two battery pack options, but it is the Tata Curvv EV which gets the larger battery packs and subsequently, a greater ARAI-claimed range. Even though the Curvv EV generates more power with its more powerful electric motor, the XUV400 still manages to secure a faster 0-100kmph time, which could be due to its smaller battery pack and better torque. Both EVs support fast charging, but the Curvv EV charges faster and will save 10 minutes of your precious time, recharging from 0-80 percent in just 40 minutes.
Both Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra XUV400 are great all-rounders and offer a good package at their respective pricing. However, our pick here would be the Curvv EV, which feels more premium, has a unique and attractive design, packs more equipment and also offers a better claimed range. So to respond to our question asked above, yes, the premium that you pay for the Curvv EV is justified.
