The Japanese electric scooter could be an all-new model, not based on the Honda Activa

This week Honda announced its plans of launching two electric scooters in Asian markets in 2024-2025 and teased them by showing off their silhouettes. While the Japanese marque hasn’t given any details, one of them seems to be the Activa Electric, and going by the recent developments, here’s what we can expect from Honda’s first EV for our market.

Familiar Yet Distinctively Different

One of the silhouettes shared by Honda looks very similar to the Activa. This means that the Japanese marque is likely to borrow the Activa’s design language. Considering that the Activa moniker has been successfully ruling the sales charts for over two decades, this decision doesn’t come as much of a shocker.

Even though the exteriors could be similar to the ICE counterpart, the electric scooter is likely to be a completely new project. Of course, the Activa Electric may share some bits with the petrol-powered siblings like the wheels, tyres and perhaps even suspension to bring down the production cost.

Do Not Expect It To Be Tech-savvy

Honda is likely to keep the feature list on the Activa Electric to a minimum, something similar to what we have seen on the Bajaj Chetak. The Activa Electric could feature two riding modes, a digital screen and limited connectivity features. This will help keep the price in check too.

Could Come With A Comprehensive Charging Infrastructure

Though Honda’s focus may not be on the features for the Activa Electric, the bikemaker seems to be ambitious about developing a vast charging infrastructure. For starters, the Honda Benly-e electric scooter was spotted testing in India, which is likely to be for testing the swappable battery tech. In fact, the company even ran a pilot programme in Bengaluru for swappable batteries for electric three-wheelers.

Furthermore, the Japanese company has even partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited to set up charging and battery swapping stations at HP fuel bunks across the country.
