The e-scooter has been spotted before as it is testing Honda’s battery tech

The Honda Benly e electric scooter was previously spotted testing in India in June 2021 near the facility of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). A year later, our sources have managed to spot the e-scooter on test yet again, this time in Bengaluru and without any camouflage, along with dealer number plates.

The Benly e was considered to be the test bed for Honda to test its swappable battery tech for India, which, in turn, revealed the fact that Honda’s EV products for India will get swappable battery tech.

To set things in motion, the Japanese bikemaker has also teamed up with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to set up battery swapping stations across the country

The Benly e is an electric scooter focused on aiding the B2B delivery segment with its utilitarian and rugged design. In international markets, the Benly E is available in four variants: Benly e I, Benly e I Pro, Benly e II and Benly e II Pro.

While the Benly e I and e I Pro are powered by a 2.8kW motor producing 13Nm, the e II’s use a 4.2kW electric motor churning out 15Nm. Paired to Honda’s swappable batteries, the e I variants offer a claimed range of 87km, whereas the e II variants claim 43km range.

When and if the Benly e does get launched in India, we hope it will come with better specs configured to suit Indian driving conditions. Adding to that, Honda has been fast-tracking its EV journey here in India and has confirmed an electrified version of the beloved Activa for the market, which could be called the Honda Activa E.
