Earlier, we had reported that the next offering from Citroen after the C3 Aircross will be a crossover sedan, called the C3X. Now, the French marque has commenced testing the upcoming model, which has been snapped for the first time. The Citroen C3X is expected to make its India debut sometime in 2024.
This particular test mule was draped in heavy camouflage, so how did we come to the conclusion it’s the C3X? Very simple. The grille and headlamps are very identical to what we’ve seen in the C3 and C3 Aircross. Its raked A-pillar and ORVM are also very identical to the compact SUV, while the flap type door handles are very Citroen.
However, not everything is common between all these models. The C3X gets a different roof, which slopes down to give the SUV-coupe look. And to mask its rear design elements, Citroen has given it a fake camouflage.
The interior is yet to be snapped, but considering that this will be sharing a lot with the C3 and C3 Aircross, you can expect the dashboard design to be nearly identical to these two cars. That said, the French marque should differentiate it by giving it a different colour scheme and upholstery finish.
In terms of features, it should get all the essentials, including a 7-inch digital driver’s display, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, manual AC, steering-mounted audio controls, electronically controlled ORVMs, and keyless entry. As for passenger safety, it should get multiple airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors with camera.
It’s still too early to talk about technical specifications, but we suspect the C3X to get the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with the 6-speed manual. Lower-spec trims could also be offered with the carmaker’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that gets a 5-speed manual ‘box.
We suspect prices of the Citroen C3X to start around the Rs 7-lakh mark (ex-showroom). It will be an alternative to models such as the Tata Curvv, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Verna, VW Virtus as well as Skoda Slavia.
