Citroen’s compact SUV in India, called the Aircross has scored an impressive 27.05 out of 32.00 for Adult Occupant Protection earning it a 5-star rating. Scores for the Child Occupant Protection stand at 40 out of 49 earning it 4-stars in this category. This is a landmark moment for Citroen, now becoming their first car in India to score a full 5-star rating. Notably, Citroen’s coupe-SUV Basalt previously received 4-stars in BNCAP.
Score - 27.05 out of 32.00
The Aircross scored 27.05 out of 32.00 for overall Adult Occupant Protection which is considered to be very good. According to the details released by Bharat NCAP, the car offered ‘Marginal’ protection for the driver’s chest, tibias and knees with ‘adequate’ for the legs and feet.
For the passenger however, it offered ‘Adequate’ protection to the chest, ‘Marginal’ protection for the tibias and knees and ‘Good’ protection for the legs.
The car scored 11.05 out of 16.00 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Test and a perfect 16 out of 16 for the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. It also cleared the Side Pole Impact Test proving its mettle in protecting occupants.

Score - 40.00 out of 49.00
As for Child Occupant Protection, the Aircross scored 40.00 out of 49.00 giving it a 4-star rating. It scored full marks in both the Dynamic test (24.00 out of 24.00)and CRS installation test (12.00 out of 12.00)ensuring firm and secure fitting for the child seats.
However it only managed to score 4.00 out of 13.00 in the vehicle assessment which leaves a lot of room for improvement. It managed to protect the 18-month old child dummy and 3-year old child dummy effectively with a full score.

Safety-wise the Citroen Aircross is equipped with 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, reverse camera and parking sensors.

The Citroen Aircross is priced from Rs 8.32 lakh to Rs 14.10 lakh(ex-showroom). The Compact SUV is available in 5-seater and 7-seater variants and competes with rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate and Tata Curvv. Notably, Citroen is gearing up to launch the Aircross X, an updated variant of the Aircross soon.
This 5-star rating is the shot-in-the-arm that the Aircross needed desperately. Previously, while Basalt scored 4 stars, this should be a good news for the French brand. While offering loads of space, practicality and great ride quality, the Aircross has not been able to catch the Indian buyer’s fancy.
This rating also reflects on the improvements that Citroen has been consistently making across their lineup in order to gain more market share.
That said, the poor vehicle assessment score in the Child Occupant Rating category is a bit disappointing and the carmaker should work on fixing the same to ensure better protection.
