Last week, Citroen launched the much-improved Aircross for Rs 8.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Taking the opportunity, it also launched a new top-end variant called the Aircross X with extensive feature additions and a new interior. But what are all the new updates like? Here is a detailed walkthrough in 11 pictures:
Exterior-wise, the Aircross X remains similar to the outgoing car. At the front, the only addition is the LED projector foglamps, while the rest of the front end remains the same. Towards the side, you still get 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and flap-type door handles, while the rear end also remains unchanged with inverted C-shaped taillamps. Citroen has given it the Aircross X badge here to distinguish it from the older versions.

Besides this, the Aircross X gets a new exterior colour option called Deep Forest Green in addition to the existing colour palette, which consists of Polar White, Pearl Nera Black, Steel Grey, Garnet Red and Cosmo Blue colours. Buyers can also opt for a dual-tone look with some colours for an extra Rs 20,000.

Citroen has made the most amount of changes in the interior of the Aircross X. There is now a new soft-touch dashboard with gold accents shared with the Basalt X, which offers a more premium feel along with a bezel-less 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The Aircross X now also gets tan leatherette seats for better passenger comfort and an upmarket look.

Besides this, the Aircross X still gets 5-seater and 7-seater layouts for more flexibility. It also gets a large 511-litre boot for more practicality.

As a part of this update, Citroen is now offering a much longer list of equipment to make the Aircross X more competitive. This includes additions like the aforementioned LED projector foglamps, keyless entry and go, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, cruise control with speed limiter and an auto-dimming IRVM.

Another addition is the CARA AI-assistant, which can process commands in 52 languages, control some basic car functions, offer emergency assistance and even offer live news updates to users. This is besides the existing feature suite, which has a digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls and electrically-adjustable outside rearview mirrors.

Citroen has also added a 360-degree camera as a part of the Aircross X’s safety suite, which also includes 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist and rear parking sensors. Notably, the Aircross also recently scored 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP crash test.

Under the hood, the Aircross continues with 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines. The naturally-aspirated petrol is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the turbo-petrol can be had with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options. The Aircross has been one of Citroen’s less popular models ever since its launch, and to improve sales, the carmaker has introduced a lot more technology to bring it up to date. The Aircross X adds some much-needed features considered to be essential in the segment it operates in, and the 7-seats add flexibility to the package too. The Aircross X now comes across as a more well-rounded package than before, and with the 5-star BNCAP rating, safety is assured as well.
