Citroen Basalt

Citroen India has revealed the production-spec Basalt ahead of its expected launch in August. The upcoming SUV coupe from Citroen will rival the soon to launch Tata Curvv on our shores and also take on compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. It is expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Citroen Basalt Key Highlights

Features: The upcoming Citroen Basalt is expected to get features like a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, a digital driver's display, automatic air conditioning, push-button start, cruise control, rear AC vents, a wireless phone charger, and steering-mounted audio controls. Six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), and rear parking sensors are likely to come as standard safety equipment. Higher variants might also feature a 360-degree camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system for added safety.

Engine: The Citroen Basalt will likely get the familiar 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is available on the existing Citroen models. Transmission options could comprise a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter (automatic). Moreover, we expect the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine to be offered in the base models.

Rivals: The Citroen Basalt will rival the Tata Curvv SUV coupe as well as other compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and MG Astor.

Variants: Based on the nomenclature of other Citroen models, the Basalt is expected to come in three broad variants: You, Plus, and Max. Being a Citroen, you can expect the Basalt to be offered with both monotone and dual-tone colours. One can also expect bright colours (like yellow and red) and neutral hues (white, grey and black) to be on offer.
