Skully Systems has introduced what is dubbed as the world’s smartest motorcycle helmet – the Skully AR-1, a lid that has a number of hi-tech features including a rear-facing camera that projects onto the visor what’s going on behind.
Apart from the wide angle camera, GPS navigation is also projected onto the visor as well as speed, music and mobile phone functions, which can be controlled by voice command. The helmet connects to both iPhone and Android devices via Bluetooth. The built-in rechargeable battery that powers the display and electronics lasts for about nine hours, according to the company.
The rear view camera has a near 180 degree viewing angle and also eliminates blind spots on the left and right of the rider. And there’s more - the camera is adjustable for a specific riding position using the Skully smartphone app. The GPS navigation works without cellular service as well, with on-board map storage as well as integrated Bluetooth-enabled GPS map updates with traffic.
Skully is taking pre-orders at Indiegogo, where the AR-1 is available at an introductory price. It will eventually retail at around $1500 or a little over Rs 90,000. Skully has so far pulled in about $730,000 in pre-orders, well above its $250,000 goal. The company is taking orders and will ship the helmets worldwide. If you successfully refer five friends to pre-order a Skully AR-1, then you get a refund of your pre-order.
