Triumph will launch the R and the RS variant in India

[Update: 2020 Triumph Street Triple R Launched In India, head here to check it out.]

  • The Euro 5/BS6-compliant 765cc motor makes similar power as before.
  • The 2020 Street Triple R gets the same design language as the RS variant.
  • It also gets a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.

Let us shed some light on the Triumph Street Triple range. It comes in three variants: S, R and RS. After updating the S and the RS variant, the British bike maker has now updated the mid-spec R variant to meet the Euro 5/BS6 emission norms. While the S variant is unlikely to come to our shores (here’s why), Triumph will bring the other two variants to India.

On the outside, there aren’t any major differences between the three variants. Triumph has equipped the Street Triple R with the same LED headlamp as seen on the S and the top-spec RS variant. So, unless you bring out the spec sheet, you could convince people that this is the top-spec model.

But if they know motorcycles like you and us, you might be in trouble as there are some changes between the variants. For instance, the new 765cc motor in the R variant makes 118PS, which is 5PS less than the top-spec RS model. Weirdly enough, the Street Triple R churns out 77Nm of torque, which is 4Nm more than the RS variant. Transmission duties are taken care of by a six-speed gearbox and now, a bi-directional quickshifter is a standard fitment.

The major difference between the previous model and the 2020 R is that the new one gets a low seat height variant, which sits around 1.8 inch lower than the previous iteration. This is done by making some changes to the suspension and adding a new seat. Whether Triumph will bring this version to India or not is still not known.

The 2020 Triumph Street R is expected to be priced at around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
