Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in Los Angeles in late-November last year. We have been intrigued by the boxy electric pickup truck, and not just because of its specification or range claims. A new CNBC teaser shows that we’ll get a good look at it on an upcoming episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.
Musk had previously demonstrated the Cybertruck’s straight-line abilities by out-dragging a Porsche 911. It has a claimed 0-96kmph (0-60mph) time of 2.9 seconds, on par with Tesla's quickest sedans.

Three trims will be on offer, with 400km of range, 480km of range, and 800km of range. The base model will be rear-wheel-drive with a single motor, the mid-spec will have two-motor all-wheel-drive, and the top-spec will have three-motor all-wheel drive. Although the truck is far from production, Musk says it will have a starting price of the USD equivalent of Rs 28.66 lakh. The top-spec Cybertruck could cost more than Rs 50.21 lakh.
The Cybertruck is clad with 30X cold-rolled sheet steel. Musk claims that the truck is resistant to 9mm bullet shots. It has Tesla armoured glass which nearly shattered during the company’s demonstration but is undeniably over-engineered for a luxury or work truck.
Inside, the truck is a 6-seater with bench seats in the front and rear. It has a 17-inch landscape-style floating touchscreen. This brawny machine will have standard air suspension and Tesla Autopilot. Trailer docking and towing assistance features have not been demonstrated but could be part of the package as they are on most American pickup trucks.
The Tesla Cybertruck is a crew-cab with a 6.5-feet long bed. Total luggage-carrying capacity with the ‘vault lid’ closed is 2,831 litres or about 2.5 times that of the India-spec ISUZU D-Max V-Cross. The Cybertruck can tow a claimed 3,400kg in its lowest RWD trim and 6,350kg in the top-spec AWD.
The CNBC trailer also shows a glimpse of the Cyberquad all-terrain vehicle which the Cybertruck can be equipped with. Musk himself will be on the show with Jay Leno to exhibit his latest creation. Watch the episode to get details on the truck’s development and possibly the company’s pre-coronavirus plans for making it a reality.
