It was initially exclusive to the more rugged Adventure Edition trim

  • The Safari gets three other body shades: Royale Blue, Daytona Grey, and Orcus White.

  • The Tropical Mist shade in the standard model doesn’t get the rugged bits from the Adventure Edition.

  • The Safari borrows heavily from the Harrier, with additional kit on offer.

  • Powered by a 170PS/350Nm 2-litre diesel engine with 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmission options.

  • The Safari is priced from  Rs 14.99 lakh to Rs 21.81 lakh (ex-showroom, India)

  • Rivals the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700 and the Hyundai Alcazar.

Remember the Tata Safari that gets a rugged Adventure Edition trim finished with an exclusive Tropical Mist body shade? Well that same body shade is now available for the standard model. It joins the Royale Blue, Daytona Grey, and Orcus White colour palette options in the Safari lineup.

There’s a catch, though; the Tropical Mist here is devoid of all the rugged bits from the Adventure Edition which includes a dual-tone black and light brown interior upholstery theme, blacked-out wheels, and chrome elements in matte black/gunmetal grey. The body shade itself is a nice tropical shade of teal.

The Tata Safari is offered in a total of ten variants and can be specced in both six-seater and seven-seater layouts. Key features include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, i-RA connected car tech, a 7-inch semi-digital driver’s display, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rear disc brakes, ambient lighting, a powered driver’s seat and a panoramic sunroof. Safety is covered by  six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, and electronic stability control.

Powering the three-row SUV is a 170PS 2-litre diesel engine that can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. While it's only a front-wheel drive model for now, Tata could plonk in an all-wheel drivetrain at a later stage depending on customer demand.

Tata Motors retails the Safari from Rs 14.99 lakh to Rs 21.81 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It takes on the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus, and the Hyundai Alcazar.
