Very few people have managed to change the shape of motorcycles or played a vital role in making an impact in the world of two=wheels. One such distinguished gentleman is Massimo Tamburini who is regarded by many as the best motorcycle designer ever. And one doesn’t require much reasoning for that as he was the person responsible for the gorgeous and achingly beautiful Ducati 916 and the MV Agusta among the many bikes from his illustrious resume. But it seemed that the legendary Italian designer had one last bike up his sleeve to astonish the motorcycling world. Sadly though he was diagnosed with cancer and Massimo Tamburini died two years ago.
The responsibility of completing the final Massimo Tamburini creation fell on the shoulders of his son, Andrea who shaped his father’s final dream into reality as the Tamburini T12 Massimo (T stands for Tamburini, 12 was his lucky number and Massimo in Italian also means “maximum”) was unveiled. Only two prototypes of the motorcycle exist and as expected the styling of the motorcycle is sharp, edgy and sensational with several intricate details. The chassis has been built from the ground up and is a trellis frame which is a Tamburini signature while the flexural rigidity of the same can also be adjusted using a special patented system.
For weight reduction, the headstock and the rear plates that are attached to the motor have been crafted from magnesium while carbon fibre has been employed to craft the body panels and fuel tank. The end result is the fact that T12 Massimo tips the scale at just 150kg dry weight. The exhaust system has been custom built by Arrow and exits from the bellypan similar to the Ducati Panigale 1299 whereas the wheels are Marchesini forged magnesium. Being a performance bike, the engine has been sourced from the BMW S1000RR but the motor has been tuned further to pump out 233PS of peak power from the four cylinders.
Like in most exotic Italian motorcycles, top drawer cycle parts have been used on the T12 Massimo which includes Ohlins suspension system and Brembo braking system with quick-release lines by Staubli. The electronic package on the motorcycle has been supplied by MoTec. The Tamburini T12 Massimo will be a track-only bike and will be produced in limited volumes to maintain exclusivity. The bike has been priced at $3,32,000 or Rs 2.27 crore in the US market. Despite the astronomical price tag we are sure that Tamburini’s last creation will be lapped up by wealthy motorcycle enthusiasts across the globe at a pace similar to the bikes performance.
