By the way, did you know Mahindra owns Peugeot?

Mahindra-owned French manufacturer Peugeot has introduced two new variants of its three-wheeled scooter, the Metropolis 400, called GT and SW, in its home country. Customers can now opt between a total of four variants, including the existing Active and Allure that have been available since its launch last year  (full deets in our story).

The GT

As the name suggests, the GT is a sporty version of the standard Metropolis. To achieve this sportier look, it gets a naked handlebar (similar to naked sport bikes) with ‘GT’ badging, a short tinted windshield, a stealthy titanium color with satin finish, and blacked out 13-inch rims with yellow accents. Along with this, the GT also gets repositioned switchgear for easier control.

The SW

Focussed towards comfort, the SW is the practical variant meant for going the distance. The most distinct aspect here is the SW’s integrated top box with a total capacity of 54 litres (equivalent to two full-face helmets) that also acts as a backrest for the pillion. Additionally, the top box is linked to the smart key system and can be opened at the push of a button. An adjustable clear windscreen is also part of the package.

Underneath the standout bits, both variants use a Euro-5 compliant 399cc, single-cylinder motor putting out 35.6PS and 38.1Nm. A hydraulic strut up front and 22-step adjustable dual gas shocks at the rear take care of the suspension duties. Keeping you upright on the go are safety features like an anti-tilt feature, ABS, and combi-braking.

The Metropolis features an immobiliser, a smart key, full-LED lighting with signature sabre-tooth DRLs, a 12V port, a USB port, cubby storage, and hazard lights. Topping it off is a well-laid out dual pod instrument cluster with a TFT display. It can be paired to Peugeot’s dedicated app, enabling navigation, phone notifications, and vehicle telemetry.

Even though Peugeot is owned by an Indian giant, the Metropolis will probably never set foot in India. In France, the GT and SW variants retail at 10,289 Euros (Rs 9.15 lakh) and 10,489 Euros (9.35 lakh), respectively. The only direct rival to the Metropolis is Piaggio’s vastly less expensive MP3 400. Read about it in our story.
