The Takata airbag recall has been a nuisance for several carmakers internationally. As companies begin to assess the extent of the faulty inflators, Honda has announced its impact on the cars sold in India just a day after the global recall issued for 4.8 million Honda cars. In India though, the number is fairly small, mainly due to the low numbers of the cars sold in the segment these airbags were fitted into.
In total, 11,381 possibly affected cars come under the recall. The Accord shares a majority of this pie – 10,805 units of the seventh generation model manufactured from 2003-2007. 575 units of the CR-V manufactured in 2004 comes next and a single unit of the 2004 Civic joins the list. Only the passenger side airbag of the CR-V and Civic need replacement while in the Accord, both the driver and passenger airbag are called in for a change.
Honda will start this preventive replacement from June 4 and will be contacting affected customers directly. Owners can also check if their car is part of the recall by logging in their vehicle identification number on the recall microsite on the Honda Cars India website.
