Following a public unveil at the 2014 Auto Expo last month, Hero MotoCorp launched the Splendor iSmart at Rs 47,250 (ex-showroom Delhi). With the Splendor iSmart, Hero MotoCorp introduces the i3S Technology (Idle Stop and Start System), which is a start-stop system that shuts the engine down while the bike is at idling and in neutral, while it automatically starts the engine as soon as the clutch is depressed and you slot the bike into gear. This technology is going to be instrumental in increasing the already impressive fuel efficiency of the bike, but as of now, Hero hasn't revealed any details in that regard.
The Splendor iSmart sports a 100cc air-cooled single cylinder four-stroke engine that produces peak power of 7.8PS at 7,500rpm and maximum torque of 8.04Nm at 4,500rpm. Hero MotoCorp was starting to lose out in the fierce commuter bike segment mainly because of the fact that it was starting to show its age and was falling behind in terms of features. Hero designers have made notice of this fact; as the Splendor iSmart now gets a much needed cosmetic update which includes new panels, graphics, paint schemes and a refreshed instrumentation cluster. Hero MotoCorp has rolled out the Splendor iSmart in four colors with new graphics – Sports Red, Leaf Green, Excellent Blue and Heavy Grey.
With the Honda Dream Yuga priced starting Rs 48,682 (ex-showroom Delhi) (for the self/drum/alloy variant) and the Bajaj Discover 100M at Rs 46,023 (ex-showroom Delhi) (self/drum/alloy) it is surely going to be a hard battle for the Splendor iSmart to win, but then again, thanks to the i3S technology and the refreshed design, they now have a capable machine to fight with.
