Here Comes The All New Harley-Davidson Breakout

The all new Harley-Davidson Breakout is bigger, better and meaner than its predecessor.

If you liked the Harley-Davidson Breakout 107, but were looking for something long, low, and aesthetically modern, the new Breakout is your answer. Just like its name, the bike is an amplified version of the older model, but retains some elements of its predecessor, like the 13-litre fuel tank. What separates it from its predecessor though, is the distinctive headlight which has been borrowed from Harley-Davidson’s prototype electric motorcycle called the ‘Livewire’, along with the semi-digital speedometer.

The new bike comes with a dual counter balancer to minimise vibrations. This also allows fitting the 45-degree V-twin directly onto the frame, to improve handling while reducing weight. It is powered by a 1868cc engine which transmits 161Nm of torque at 3000 rpm, as compared to the 151Nm of torque at 3250 rpm of the older model. Harley claims that the new Breakout is 9 per cent faster to 60kmph from a standstill and around 13 per cent faster from 60-80 kph than the Milwaukee-Eight 107.

The redesigned tubular frame is significantly stiffer than the current Softail frame. The new frame also comes with over 50 per cent fewer components which has helped in reducing the weight by over 34 per cent. The new bike, at 293kg, is much lighter than the older model which weighed up to 320kg.

The bike also comes with Showa Dual Bending Valve (SDBV) fork which was introduced last year on the FL touring line. This helps in further reducing the weight and provides linear damping characteristics for a more comfortable and rear-friendly ride.

Other changes include extended wheel travel, improved dampening and a bigger set of spring preload adjustment. The Softail’s under-engine twin shocks have also been replaced by a single under-seat coil-over unit. This will help in making the shock action more conventional. Even with all the changes, the bike still maintains the Hardtail look, thanks to the shock-less rear-frame. The cruiser comes with ABS as a standard feature.

You can buy the 2018 Harley-Davidson Breakout 114 for $20,299 (Rs 13 lakhs) in vivid black option. We expect the 2017 Harley-Davidson Breakout to head to India by late 2017 as a CKD unit.
