The one-litre EcoBoost engine which was first seen at last year’s Beijing Auto Show and was later marked in the Ford B-MAXshoen a the Geneva Motor Show this year is finally revealed by Ford. The American car manufacturer will soon launch a new 1.0-litre EcoBoost in all small Ford cars adding up to its Eco Boost engines more technology such as turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT). For better Fuel economy Ford has introduced an offset camshaft, a system that allows the cylinder block to heat before the cylinder head, and a cylinder head casted exhaust manifold to not just reduce weight but also reduce exhaust gas temperatures.
Ford's new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine
Sketched at Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre the engineers always had the thought of making an improvement in thermal efficiency and reducing friction and reduction of emissions especially during warm-up.
Direct Injection of gas helps pressurised fuel to be injected directly into the combustion chamber as opposed to the long-established way of mixing of air with the inlet port. This benefits in using up fuel more efficiently and hence reduces emissions. Modern day technology is best at making maximum use of all forms of energy produced in an engine. The energy produced from the exhaust which would otherwise be wasted can now is used to rotate a turbine which is clubbed to a compressor to pressurise in flowing air, resulting in significant increase in output per litre of fuel and this is what today’s generation knows as a turbocharger.
A combination of a small engine packed with a direct injection and a turbocharger is something worth looking forward to.
