While it gets the Ziptron EV powertrain like the Nexon EV, the electric sedan will have certain differences

With the Tata Tigor EV launch scheduled on August 31, the electric sedan has now been spotted at dealership yards. While the carmaker has already unveiled the upcoming electric sedan, the latest spy images have revealed some interesting tidbits, which differentiate the Tigor EV from its fleet sibling, the XPres-T.

Here are five key takeaways:

The Range

We already have an idea of most of the Tata Tigor EV's technical details, but the main thing missing was the range. However, the spy images have now given a slight indication of that. In one image, the sedan revealed 204km of remaining range at 59 percent battery level. From this, it seems like the Tigor EV has got the XPres-T EV in its crosshairs, with the latter's ARAI-tested range being 213km on a full charge.

In fact, a simple math calculation tells us that the range could go up to 345km on a full battery. That’s exceeding the XPres-T by over 120km. But do note that real-life factors like temperature and driving style affect the actual range.

More With Less

Sure, our estimated range figures aren't taking into account real-life variables. Still, even if you do consider those, you can expect the Tigor EV to offer a range of more than 300km. This is quite the feat, considering the Nexon EV, which uses a more powerful version of the Ziptron powertrain, has an ARAI-claimed range of 312km. And that is despite the SUV running on a larger 30.2kWh battery.

Thanks to the Ziptron electric powertrain, the Tigor EV generates 75PS and 170Nm via a 26kWh battery pack. For reference, this is 35PS/60Nm and a 5.5kWh more capacity over the XPres-T EV

Skin-deep Differences

The spy images reveal a similar design language to the XPres-T EV. But, the electric Tigor packs additional elements like LED DRLs, projector headlamps, and steel wheels with plastic wheel covers that mimic alloy wheels. It also has blue accents all over, telling you it’s an EV. Another difference is that the XPres-T’s charging port is on the nose, while that of the Tigor EV is behind the rear door (where the refuelling cap would be on an ICE vehicle).

Inside, it is largely similar to the standard model, except for the EV-specific blue inserts. Click here to know all the Tigor EV’s features.

Price And Rivals

The Tigor EV is Tata Motors’ entry-level electric offering and is expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. While there’s no true rival in India yet, it will go up against the upcoming Mahindra eKUV100 EV
